Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo announced plans Friday to break ground this summer on a $70 million dollar outdoor grassland habitat for African wildlife.
The African Grasslands exhibit will be the largest project in zoo history, spanning more than 28 acres, zoo spokeswoman Dawn Ream said in an announcement.
The project will be a full-immersion outdoor habitat featuring African wildlife and some new animals, including elephants, African antelope and plains zebras.
The area will have extensive grasses, acacia-like trees, granite boulders and minimal barriers that will allow unobstructed views of animals, Ream said.

(16,038 posts)a storm knocked a crow's nest out of a tree in my yard. There were 3 baby crows. I fed them alpo dog food and raised them until it was time to fly away. They never did. They were tame. I kept one and after a call to Henry Doorly, delivered the other 2 to them. I never heard what happened to them after that.
Our crow was a real character known all over town. He made the local paper several times. Once for landing on the open 3rd floor window of a local grade school, flying into the classroom, taking a cross pen from the teachers desk, then flying back out the window....He loved shiny objects..
oh...we renamed ours Henry after our visit to the zoo.

(16,038 posts)Henry would take coins when he could, and loved salted nut rolls. My mother was called one Saturday afternoon. Henry was at a nearby church sitting on the hood of a car decorated for a wedding couple. He wouldn't move and the bridesmaids didn't want the couple to come out to find a large black crow sitting on their car. When my mom and I got there, Henry was on that car which was decorated with silver tinsel. He knew he was in trouble and stayed just out of my mother's reach. She finally caught him, turned back toward the church to see all of the wedding guests looking at her in her yard work clothes. .holding a crow...she was livid. ..
