Kevin Johnson outlines NBPA plans

Source: ESPN

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson, working on behalf of the National Basketball Players Association, said the players want the NBA to ban Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling from attending future playoff games this season and levy the maximum possible punishment against Sterling in response to racist comments purportedly made by him to girlfriend V. Stiviano.

Johnson met with NBA commissioner Adam Silver on Sunday before they attended Game 4 of the Clippers' first-round series against the Golden State Warriors. During the meeting, Johnson laid out what the players felt were key objectives in terms of the league's dealings with Sterling.

"The players wanted to ensure that Mr. Sterling does not attend any games for the Clippers or any other team for the duration of the playoffs," Johnson said. "We're confident that the commissioner understood that this is an enormous distraction for everyone, and we want the focus to really be on the games and what's taking place on the court, and he certainly understood that."

Sterling was at Game 3 on Thursday night in Oakland, Calif., and was planning to be at Game 4 on Sunday before speaking with the league and agreeing not to attend as it investigated his comments. Sterling's wife, Rochelle, however, was at Sunday's game and sat courtside across from the Clippers' bench in their 118-97 loss.

I am beginning to think Mr. Sterling is not a nice man.

The other lady. In fact the wife is suing the girlfriend from what I have read for monies he has spent on her. It is a crazy world.

He has only had two objectives since he has been in office. Build a new basketball arena, partially with taxpayer money, and grabbing more power for himself.

Tell me a previous mayor in this city who has cared less for the residents of this city while in office and who has accomplished less for the city.

Tell me another mayor who has run as a democrat and once in office catered to outside developers the way he has.

Tell me of another mayor who has held $500 a plate fundraisers in New York City when running for mayor in a city clear across the country.

We don't even have to get into the skeletons in his closet.

even though she was the mayor for less than a decade? How does that work? What has Johnson done during his time as mayor? Besides a lot of posturing and back room deals with developers from out of town. I would not call retaining a lower echelon basketball team at the taxpayers expense an accomplishment for the city, maybe for the NBA, but not for the city.

You call it stagnation, as if a bigger, more congested, more crime ridden city is better.

I watched him hijack a Obama rally a few days before the 2008 election. His whole pitch was "they used to call me 'pocket Magic' now I'm going to be 'pocket Obama'."

I wish I was making that up because it was painfully stupid and awkward.

The Central Valley has always sent conservative Democrats into high political positions. Blue Dog congressmen like Gary Condit, Dennis Cardoza, and Jim Costa are great examples of that. White, black, or hispanic, it's fairly rare to find a real liberal among the Democratic leadership positions from the Valley. Our political spectrum seems to run from "conservative Democrat" to "card carrying citizen of Teabaggerstan".

Must be the heat.
