Rep. Michael Grimm Surrenders to FBI to Face Criminal Charges: Officials
Source: WNBC
New York Rep. Michael Grimm surrendered to the FBI Monday morning and was arrested on federal criminal charges, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the case.
Grimm is believed to be facing charges related to a private business deal that he made prior to being elected to Congress that involved an Upper East Side health food restaurant.
He's expected to be arraigned in federal court later Monday.
The exact charges have not been made public, but last week Grimm's lawyer, William McGinley, confirmed in a statement that prosecutors said they intend to file criminal charges.

If Grimm was a Democrat, it would be in the headline, and mentioned twice in the first sentence.

(17,195 posts)I've always thought it was SOP to put a politician's affiliation in parenthesis after his name.
Kind of depressing, though. He's being arrested for the dirty deal, not for threatening the reporter with assault.

(16,113 posts)but it also depends on the news source. Local papers, when reporting what seems to be a local story, usually seem to be worse about identifying party (you can see it in local Boston papers for local political scandals). Maybe it's because, when discussing local politicians, most people know the party, or maybe it's a built in (intentional or unintentional) bias. It does seem, though, that when discussing politicians from other places, they're quicker to identify the party.

(8,032 posts)Selection bias is an inescapable side-effect of deeply held belief or opinion. Political junkies (aren't we all, here?) are quite susceptible.
I know I catch it in myself more often than is respectable.

reporter after the reporter attempted to ask him about allegations of campaign finance wrong-
doing.
Shortly thereafter, Grimm returns and gets in the reporter's face, while still on camera.
"Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this f***ing balcony,"
Grimm says.
Grimm adds: "You're not man enough, you're not man enough. I'll break you in half. Like a boy."
