@mattyglesias It came straight from the State Farm CEO on @ESPN_Colin.

The severance is particularly notable because the Clippers star point guard Chris Paul is a leading spokesperson for State Farm.

NBA Will Announce What It Plans To Do With Donald Sterling On Tuesday
IGOR BOBIC APRIL 28, 2014, 12:35 PM EDT
The NBA will announce the result of its investigation into Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling on Tuesday, CBS News reported.
A purported conversation between Sterling and his girlfriend V. Stiviano was released on Friday, in which he said he didn't want Stiviano taking photos with black people or bringing blacks to his basketball games.
Newly appointed NBA commissioner Adam Silver previously said he would wait to see the results of an internal league investigation before announcing any punitive measures upon Sterling.
"All members of the NBA family should be afforded due process and a fair opportunity to present their side of any controversy," Silver said, according to ESPN. "The core of the investigation is understanding whether the tape is authentic, interviewing Mr. Sterling and interviewing the woman as well and understanding the context in which it was recorded." The team's players staged a silent protest at center court before they took on the Golden State Warriors in Sunday's Game 4 of their first-round series.

UPDATE:
Sponsors Begin To Abandon Los Angeles Clippers Over Owner's Racist Rant
CATHERINE THOMPSON APRIL 28, 2014, 2:20 PM EDT
Like so many dominoes, sponsors of the Los Angeles Clippers are abandoning the team in quick succession over its owner Donald Sterling's alleged racist comments.
After conflicting reports that it was ending its sponsorship of the Clippers entirely, the insurance company State Farm announced Monday that it was "taking a pause" in its relationship with the team, according to a statement obtained by the Washington Post. The company said that it would continue to support Clippers point guard Chris Paul, who heads the National Basketball Players' Association and appears in the company's ads.

(12,336 posts)At least that's what I heard. Which I suppose means that he has no use for Sterling except to take Sterling's money. I suspect he also has a contract with State Farm which means he'll be getting paid no matter what. Besides, he does not wear anything remotely resembling a Clipper's uniform in the ads.

(1,698 posts)The fact that Paul is being paid really seems to disturb you. They work for their pay. They worked hard to get to the NBA. The competition was steep. If everybody refused their pay because their employer was an ass, most of us would never survive.

(12,336 posts)In fact, I think it's great that he's taking Sterling's money. I'm sorry that you apparently read my post wrong. I have no problem with any athlete or anyone else getting paid as long as it's done honestly.
Incidentally, I used to play basketball in a rec league, so I know damn well how hard it is to be one of the best in the world. I will re-read my post and see if there is anywhere that I said that I am disturbed by Paul getting paid. But I don't think I'll see anything that suggests that. Peace to you.

(18,791 posts)decide to "show up and play" ...timing for this ugliness could not have been worse.
Don't get me wrong...Jabba Sterlings feelings (getting to be pretty well documented) are disgusting.
But after years of sub-par performance, the guys on this squad have finally come together and have the best chance to get near the championship...I hope the team can focus on the trophy and let the ugly get sorted out by others. Doc Rivers, I wish you the best...you were the only cool head over the weekend.
And a special thanks to shit-site TMZ and gold digger "girlfriend" for their for their participation...whatever.

(34,648 posts)Racist man screws everything up and the answer is to call the woman a golddigger for outing the racist. Do you think she should have kept his racist crap a secret so as to not look like a gold digger? He was talking about her family when he was disrespecting black people. She IS a black woman after all. Wow.

With more to come: http://www.mediaite.com/online/state-farm-pulls-clippers-sponsorship-over-sterling-controversy/
"Transition CEO Steve Stoute, who represents State Farm, announced on ESPNs Cowherd radio show that State Farm would not sponsor the Clippers as long as Sterling was owner. Stoute said sponsorship of individual players might continue, but not of the organization itself.
Im telling the brands, Lets pull sponsorship, starting with State Farm, Stoute said. When you have things like this taking place, somebody has to stand up.
Stoute added that he expected more companies to pull their sponsorship in the next forty-eight hours. "
