Land near Lincoln (NE) protected for endangered beetle

Source: Omaha World Herald-AP

LINCOLN (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has made its final ruling and has designated 1,110 acres of land near Lincoln as critical habitat for the endangered Salt Creek tiger beetle.

The Lincoln Journal Star reported that the service published its decision in the Federal Register on Monday. The designation takes effect June 5.

The number of acres is fewer than the 1,933 acres proposed in 2010, but the service says the land holds enough habitat to support recovery of the species.
