Utah judge may hold AG in contempt over gay adoption

Source: Salt Lake Tribune

Same-sex couples fighting for the right to adopt children may force the Utah Supreme Court to address one of the biggest legal issues in the state: Whether the Utah marriages of more than 1,300 gay couples are valid.

A state court judge this week ordered that the Utah Attorney General’s Office and several government agencies appear in court on June 16 to explain why they have refused to honor these adoptions.

If they refuse, or provide an inadequate response, Attorney General Sean Reyes, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Health, W. David Patton, and the State Registrar of the Office of Vital Records, Janice Houston, may be held in contempt of court — a crime punishable by incarceration, a fine or both.

&quot These officials) must appear and show cause why they should not be held in contempt for their willful disregard and refusal to obey the Decree of Step-Parent Adoption," wrote 3rd District Judge Andrew Stone.

To hear the reasons that the party hack and the teabagger have for being against LGBT rights.
They align with crazy old white guy when they state that allowing gay marriage will change institution of marriage.
They dont explain how it will change the institution of marriage. They cannot. Its just a talking point they have been coached to say. The teabagger , very seriously claims that other laws will be drastically altered by allowing equal rights to LGBT citizens. He does not explain which laws, or how that would actually occur.
They do not have a reason. They only have bullshit. Bullshit works just fine with law information voters who have no interest in equality. Looks like the R's have once again painted themselves into a corner. I hope the judge carries out his threat. Its time to get serious with bigoted religious idiots and refuse to allow them to continue to bully the populace.
