Mental exam ordered for man who had 2 guns at Boston University commencement

Source: Associated Press

BOSTON -- A mental health evaluation has been ordered for a Massachusetts man accused of trying to take two loaded handguns into a Boston University commencement.

Marshfield resident Andrea Massa was arrested by university police at a bag check area Sunday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of carrying a firearm on school grounds, disturbing a school and disturbing a public assembly. A judge set bail at $100,000.

The Boston Globe reports defense attorney Charles Humphreys said in court Massa mistakenly believed his firearms license allowed him to carry the concealed weapons.

In Florida he'd invoke "stand your ground" and receive a public apology and a $1.3 million settlement.

will never hold up.

He's a Massachusetts resident who didn't even have a firearms license--and he didn't KNOW he needed a license.

Nevermind where he was carrying the guns. There's just no way that he didn't know he needed a license.

As I sat here trying to think of something that wouldn't get me censured, the best I could think of was that it would probably be determined that he was a good American, lethal and dangerous, but unfocused on a target.
