Petco Pulls All Chinese Pet Jerky Treats from Shelves
BY MONICA ALBA
Petco became the first pet retail store to remove all China-made dog and cat treats today when it announced that it would stop selling the products in its more than 1,300 locations nationwide by the end of the year.
The move by one of the nation's top two pet retailers comes just days after the FDA announced that jerky treats, mostly imported from China, have now been linked with more than 1,000 dog deaths and nearly 5,000 illnesses in dogs, cats and, for the first time, even people.

(14,881 posts)and I don't understand what is taking so long for stores to look for better sources.
I wonder how many people will have to die before we stop shipping chicken to China to be processed and shipped back as "chicken nuggets."
Seriously, the waste of energy and the pollution caused by shipping back and forth so Chinese slaves can make our stuff...it's sickening. what a fucked up country we are.

(29,503 posts)At any rate, plenty of dogs and cats were harmed by toxic jerky.
Just in case you wanted to think of them.
Anyway, if you are trying to pick a fight with me today, that's all you're getting; putting you on ignore.

(23,691 posts)Those crystal litters make me very nervous. They are definitely some type of chemically made substance. How do I know what effect they'll have on my kitty cat. I now only use natural litter produced here.

(65,408 posts)New regs allow the label to say, "Made in the USA," even if the chicken was processed in China. We no longer have a right to know that we are buying chicken from China.

(22,651 posts)Some of the problems were bogus additives, chemicals that for example slowly damaged dogs kidneys until the dogs developed renal failure and died.
That's the same country where bogus protein was added to infant formula and many infants were sickened and some died.

(7,412 posts)Be careful with mushrooms in the can or jar, many are from China now. I inspect anything pickled closely as well, India and China are popular origins. I even quit buying water chestnuts and bamboo shoots, always loved them but all from China.
I've across frozen broccoli lately also from China. I've also sworn off any farmed seafood from Asia, they rarely get any kind of inspection. Places like Canada and Japan are banning imports of Asian farm-raised seafood left and right and the US barely even looks at 1% of the imports. Other countries require large percentages of the imports to be evaluated and tested.

They are still solidly against our financial interests, and they have way too much power right now.
