Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson says bibles in schools will prevent school shootings
Source: UPI
NEW ORLEANS, May 30 (UPI) --Speaking at yesterday's Republican Leadership Conference, controversial Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson expressed his views that the United States government is dependent on a religious foundation to succeed.
"GOP, you can't be right for America if you're wrong with God," Robertson said, according to the Washington Post. "You want to turn the Republican Party around? Get Godly."
Robertson then touched on separation of church and state, quoting John Adams, saying "t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles on which freedom can securely stand...You lose your religion, you lose your morality, and you lose your freedom."
When the subject turned to religion in schools, Robertson is quoted as saying "Education is useless without the Bible." According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Robertson speculated that potential school-shooters would be deterred if they were taught to "love your neighbor."

Huck's son was protected by his Daddy the preacher, of course. I don't know if it was the same son, or the other obese one who tried to board a plane with a loaded gun!! Strong christian, family values in the Huckerbee family. If they would fast for one day a month, they could feed a family of 4.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disasterIn 1927, school started with the Lord's Prayer and a reading. Bibles were often school prizes. (My great-grandparents both got leather pocket new testaments from their public, township schools. In the early 30s.)

I'm not longer shocked by much of anything. The violence is so prevalent in American society now. We are all horrified when it happens, but not shocked any more. I hope we never become numb to it and instead try to do something to stop as much of it as we can, but I fear a lot of people are becoming numb/desensitized to it.

(2,983 posts)I also think we should have small altars in every classroom. We should begin every class, every day, with a pledge of allegiance, followed by an All Father, followed by the sacrifice of at least two goats. The first class every day, in every school, should be based on the teachings of wonderful and brilliant creationists. When we are finished with these basic necessities for overall righteousness and real American education, we should proceed to holding hands (but no boys and boys or girls and girls - that's bad, God says no) and chanting hymns - for at least a good hour, every day. Who needs recess when you have prayer?
Also, we should then make absolutely mandatory two hour classes in target practice using the most modern fire arms available. We've got to get our guns right to get our God right, you know what I mean? Jesus loved guns, so we should love guns too. If Jesus were alive today, I bet he'd have heat seeking missiles, bazookas, machine guns, grenades. He'd be the ultimate warrior. He'd blast the fuck out of those silly democrats and we could all have liberty, freedom, guns, and school under God.
Also, we gotta love our neighbors - but not if they're liberals or non-christians. If they are those then we need to kick them out of our Country and send them to Mexico or something.
Also, in honor of Duck Dynasty and good Christians everywhere, I hereby propose that we forget this silly notion of Separation of Church and State - and put Mike Huckabee in charge of education. He's a real smart man. That's the way to fix education, I tell you. Get it right with God. Get it right with guns. Get it right with goats. Goats. Get it right with goats. Well, time to get back to the farm. Scuse me.

(82,383 posts)insanity, the way he put it gives pause. "Love you neighbor." If Rodger weren't so focused on himself and competition. But we have a First Amendment and there can't be religion in schools. But teaching kids to love their neighbor rather than compete with them could have some value.

(2,983 posts)So that one, for me, is even funnier than it is for most people. I could tell you stories.
We have the occasional meetings of the Gideons (I might be spelling that wrong) - the people who are responsible for the bibles in pretty much every hotel room. For the most part, they are older folks and seem eager to get the meetings over with as quickly as possible. It often seems to me that it's a group of people that really can't stand each other. If you watch the eyes, they look at each other askance, even when they're smiling and talking about God.
I've never seen a more quiet, more stern, more unhappy group. Perhaps it's because deep down they know that, in the same drawer where they leave the bible, people leave condoms, guns and knives - I even found a porn tape in one once, someone was being funny and put it inside the bible.

Each Student only gets the map to their own bible hut within the maze, so none knows where the others are. This way any potential intruders are harmlessly trapped in the bible maze until police can arrive. Then Build a 4 foot thick bible wall around the exterior. If you are ambitious, add some bible traps, where if intruders chose the wrong verse, they are buried by a two ton pallet of bibles falling from the ceiling.

Either way, without the name Bible on that book, it would probably get banned. And there is some of the most brutal violence in the Bible. No two ways about that. It would not stop school shootings. There would probably be more school shootings and other types of violence too.

(24,396 posts)Because everybody knows that Bibles are not going to be allowed back in school outside of an individual's right to carry one themselves. The Bible is not going to be used as some kind of textbook in the public schools.
So by making his asinine statement, the Dick Dynasty asshole can rest easy in the fact that the RW nuts and Xian zealots will not only agree with his unConstitutional blather, they will continue to be irate as nothing changes and the Bible isn't forced into the classroom. And that keeps them primed and pumped to be good little angry robots in the always-seething RW echo chamber.

The thing that bothers me most is America is the home of religious tolerance and the radical right dismisses every other religion. They pretend to like Jews only because it is bad form to say anything against them but, they still think we killed Christ and secretly hate us.

(58,237 posts)In the wake of recent school shootings, a candidate for Oklahoma state superintendent of education has announced a bold new proposal to keep kids safe without spending more on school security. Republican Bill Crozier suggests that students can defend themselves from school shooters by using textbooks to stop bullets fired at them.
If elected he promises that thick used textbooks will be placed at the ready under every school desk. Crozier recently tested his theory by doing what millions of students only wish they could do: fire round after round into a Calculus and science textbook with an assault rifle and handguns. Even better, he made a home video of his experiment and provided an unedited copy to a local Oklahoma City television station.
