School: Aide told students pet treats were cookies

Source: AP-Excite

BOYERTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania school district says an aide has been suspended after she tricked students into eating pet snacks by telling them they were cookies.

About 75 fourth-graders at New Hanover-Upper Frederick Elementary School received the pet treats during recess Thursday. No injuries were reported.

Student Gabriel Moore tells WFMZ-TV the aide first joked they were dog treats, then told students they were actually cookies. Gabriel ate three.

I used to eat Milk-Bone Dog Treats. They taste just like Rye-Crisp Crackers. Never a hint of even feeling bad.

Harmless but stupid on the part of the aid
Shows poor judgement.

When I was younger ate some myself for the novelty. I can't imagine eating three if I thought they were cookies

Like... why?

And why does this warrant an AP story? I bet some kid somewhere tricked another into eating dog poop this week. and im sure some discount store sold an unlabled canned good and some unsuspecting person ate dogfood, thinking it to be meat and gravy. None of which would qualify as news, to my way of thinking.

It's pretty disgusting how badly the munchies hit me, and so I've tried pretty much every dog treat that's ever come into the house. None of them have ever hurt me.

Having said that, I would still be upset if someone fed my kid dog treats. And confused... they CAN'T be cheaper than sugar cookies.

... of the ingredients of these things came from China, I would not have given it a second thought. But now that thousands of pets had died eating melamine and other adulterants I don't think I would willingly eat a dog treat.

When I was five I had an older cousin who was like 12 or 13 at the time, we were in one of those petco type places and my cousin took a really nice looking dog treat, said it was a cookie, and convinced me to eat it. As soon as I tried it I started crying it was so bad, when I told on him I remember my mom thinking it was kind of funny, then again she's one of five kids so something tells me she did this more than once as a child, I think anyone with a younger sibling or cousin has done something like this. Except not to a classroom of kids, not smart on her part.

it has TOO MUCH salmonella. One recall was triggered because a dog handler got sick just handling the treats which is somewhat like handling raw chicken.

A dog's immune system can deal with a certain amount of salmonella. Our threshold is MUCH lower.

http://seattletimes.com/html/pets/2023717171_petfoodrecallxml.html

Also many dog foods are made using puffed grains sprayed with grease, some of which may come from fast food restaurants after they use it repeatedly. It takes a shipload of preservatives to keep meat and fat from spoiling at room temperature.

Bon appetite!

They consider the poor to be in the same category as dogs and should be treated as such. They can grovel on the floor eating scraps from the tables of the God favored oligarchs.

The Republicans remind me of the Jesus' parable of Lazarus:

19 ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
.22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
.23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
.24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. [note below.]
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
.26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
.27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
.31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
