Uganda Anti-Gay Law Advocate to Head UN General Assembly
Source: Bloomberg
The United Nations General Assembly named Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa, a leading advocate of his countrys anti-homosexuality law, as its new president for the 2014-2015 session that begins in September.
Kutesa was the African Unions uncontested candidate for the 12-month post. Regional groups take turns heading the UNs main deliberative organ.
The former lawyer and politician defended Ugandan President Yoweri Musevenis February enacting legislation that toughened punishments for gay sex to include life imprisonment for some homosexual acts. As Ugandas top diplomat, Kutesa has responded to international condemnation of the law by saying that the majority of Africans abhor this practice, which is wrong for our young people, and it offends our culture.

(15,185 posts)What an absolute joke of an organization. And don't even get me started on the Security Council and the Big Five bullshit.
If I were a nation outside the Big Five, I wouldn't adhere to a single resolution ever passed.

Andrew Jackson in charge of How to Remove Those Indians Off or our Gold problem; Oh wait, that one is not recognized as a problem!
Joesph Stalin in charge of treating prisoners not so gently. Oh, wait. In the WWII context, we don't recognize that either.
Kim Jung Un apparently befriended basketball great Dennis Rodman. Still fires off missiles toward S. Korea and Japan. The UN could put him in charge of all Asian relations.
While we're at it, why not make Benito Mussolini in charge of making sure no Fascist propaganda gets involved in the Western World?
Hey UN. Unbelievable!
