U.S. captures Benghazi suspect in secret raid

Source: The Washington Post

U.S. Special Operations forces captured one of the suspected ringleaders of the terrorist attacks in Benghazi in a secret raid in Libya over the weekend, the first time one of the accused perpetrators of the 2012 assault has been apprehended, according to U.S. officials.

The officials said Ahmed Abu Khattala was captured near Benghazi by American troops, working alongside the FBI, following months of planning, and was now in U.S. custody “in a secure location outside Libya.” The officials said there were no casualties in the operation, and that all U.S. personnel involved have safely left Libya.

Khattala’s apprehension is a major victory for the Obama administration, which has been criticized for having failed so far to bring those responsible for the Benghazi attacks to justice.

One jubilant official called Khattala’s capture “a reminder that when the United States says it’s going to hold someone accountable and he will face justice, this is what we mean.”

Then ask him did the video have anything to do with the attack. It will be interesting to see what he says and the repsonse from the witch hunters if he said yes the video prompted the attack.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) raised questions about how the administration plans to deal with Khatallah, arguing he should be held as a prisoner of war in Guantanamo rather than brought into the federal criminal justice system.

“He should be going to Gitmo and be held as an enemy combatant,” Graham said. “And it would be the biggest mistake for the ages to read this guy his Miranda rights.”
Graham said he is concerned Khatallah is being held on a ship, but said that “at the end of the day, I’m glad we captured somebody.”

How long did it take bush to find bin Laden? He knew where he was hiding, but got away twice.

GOPers are still investigating Benghazi and the IRS is bullshit and they know it. Now there's Bowe B but alas Iraqi is front and center where corporate media is finding veterans who claim that both Bush and Obama are at fault and that they are willing to go back and fight again in the memory of the fallen soldiers. So yea, corporate media wants another major conflict and more Americans and Iraqi's deaths.

War is PROFIT and RATINGS.

Tax cuts pay for themselves.....except they don't, and as a result the country claims poverty and cuts programs while the upper reaches of the income scale amass fortunes and buy influence and protection.

Deficits don't matter....except they do (well they REALLY matter when the other party is in charge, regardless of who wrote the blank checks in the first place...).

Obamacare will bankrupt the country and lead to death panels....except it did no such thing and is actually saving lives and performing as well as could be expected.

"The Stimulus" will bankrupt the country and lead to soup kitchens for all...except it was too small and BARELY held off a second Depression.

Gay Marriage would bring on the total disintegration of Western society...except no one notices it any more unless its still illegal out of spite, fear and hatred.

Climate change is a "hoax", except its already a major issue in many places and poised to become a massive issue everywhere in the next couple decades.

Iraqis will greet us as liberators....except they didn't, and it cost the lives of nearly 5,000 Americans as a result.

"Mission Accomplished"....except it wasn't, and never can be at the point of a rifle or a tank or in the crosshairs of a missile strike or drone...because the actual "mission" was never stated in the light of day in the first place and because the regional hatreds and blood feuds we stepped into have been going on for over 1000 years with no sign of abating EVER.

"Bin Laden determined to strike inside US"...OK, you've covered your butt....except you missed the point entirely and ended up allowing 3,000+ people to die as a result.

"No one could have predicted this (9/11)" (Condie)....except they had.

"Saddam has WMD, we know it and we know where they are" (Darth Cheney)....except it was false, they weren't there, EVER.

"The evidence is incontrovertable....Saddam has WMD" (Colin) .... except you were being politically executed Mr. Powell, and marched to the gallows like a good soldier, no blindfold needed.

About the only factual utterance from a conservative mouth in the last 30+ years was Reagan, when already clearly suffering from his Alzheimer's Disease he stated over and over that "I don't recall" when asked about Iran-Contra.

Such cool-headed patience, use of solid intelligence, and shrewd, tactical execution must be excruciating to the neocon knee-jerkers. Such impulsivists would have had us go in, gunz-a-blazin', flags a-flyin', destroying anything and everything in a purple-faced fit of fury and causing death for untold numbers, and costing us billions as we "sow the seeds of democracy." Right.

Shrink-wrapped pallets of hundred dollar bills to be "lost" (likely funneled back into GOP coffers by rightwing-affiliated defense contractors)--that aint gonna happen.

Despite the rising chorus of plaintive wails from the usual detractors on the wrong side of history, today is a good day for America. Too bad they aren't American enough to share in the good news of a job well done. Screw them all!

We are allowed to bask in schadenfreude!
