PAULSBORO Standing in the shadow of the Paulsboro Refining Company and right next to the Delaware River, representatives from Environment New Jersey and Mom's Clean Air Force released a report showing millions of pounds of chemicals have been released into the state's waterways.
The representatives also called for action on the Clean Water Act from government officials and residents.
Dupont Chamber Works in the Deepwater section of Pennsville and Paulsboro's PBF Refinery are among the top polluters in the state, according to the report, titled "Wasting Our Waterways: Toxic Industrial Pollution and Restoring the Promise of the Clean Water Act."

Approximately 206 million pounds of toxic chemicals, from ammonia and phenol to zinc, sodium nitrate and hydrogen sulfide, were released into waterways in the United States in 2012, according to the report, with 5.862 million of those pounds being in New Jersey making it the 14th highest in the country.

Some interesting comments:
It's crazy that these discharges are completely legal -- what we really need is for the EPA to close loopholes in the Clean Water Act - you can sign the petition (and read the full report) here: http://bit.ly/WastingWaterways

My apologies for the barf bags that must be employed at the sight of that soulless fascist. And now, back to our regularly scheduled program, er, topic:
Gov. Chris Christie must support EPA-ordered coal plant cleanup, not partisan politics
By Star-Ledger Editorial Board - November 04, 2011
New Jersey governors, both Democratic and Republican, have long pressed for a cleanup of coal plants in other states that are spewing toxins into our air.
Until now. Gov. Chris Christie broke that streak yesterday. He said the Environmental Protection Agency is already doing too much. He said the federal government has too much power. He said he was "inclined" to reject calls to support the coal plant cleanup ordered by the EPA.
This is a day to fly the flags at half-staff. Because hundreds of people in New Jersey will die prematurely every year if Christie gets his way. Many more will suffer from heart attacks and asthma.
Thats not melodrama, unfortunately. The EPA has ordered a cleanup of power plants in 27 states, most of them to our west and south. The order will cost New Jersey almost nothing because our power plants are already much cleaner than most.

Looks like Chris didn't listen then, and he's not going to listen now, as he takes his orders directly from the Kochs:
Audio: Chris Christie Lets Loose at Secret Koch Brothers Confab

In our exclusive recordings, David Koch introduces the New Jersey governor as "my kind of guy" and "a true political hero..."
On the morning of June 26, Chris Christie, New Jersey's flamboyant, tough-talking Republican governor, appeared on NBC's Meet The Press. He then jetted out to Colorado, delivered a keynote speech at Charles and David Koch's ultra-exclusive seminar at the Ritz-Carlton resort near Vail, and returned home the same night, all without breathing a word about his adventure to his constituents.
In Part 1 of this report, we gave you the inside scoop on the Kochs' top-secret strategy meeting, where hundreds of wealthy patrons were urged to open their wallets for what Charles Koch described as "the mother of all wars"the effort to unseat President Obama. We also told you we'd obtained exclusive audio recordings from the event. And we promised to reveal the identity of the main keynote speaker.
With security extraordinary on the seminar's opening nightaudio speakers around the periphery of the outdoor dining pavilion blasted out static to thwart eavesdroppersDavid Koch introduced Gov. Christie as "my kind of guy." (The two had previously met in private at Koch's New York City office, he revealed.) Before long, seminar attendees were roaring with laughter as Christie regaled them over dessert, telling them how, in his first weeks in office, he'd exercised extraordinary executive powers to impound billions of dollars in planned spending. ("The good news for all of you and for me," he said, "is that the governorship in New Jersey is the most powerful constitutional governorship in America." ...

PLEASE go to the link and read the rest of what he promised them to their cheers, it's much, much worse. Amazed there has not been more outrage about the policies this man is going to enact in his state, and would do so as POTUS. And yet he's 'still a contender.'

Sigh.
It's all bad. A toxin is a toxin, radioactive or not, and the deadliest toxins don't scream out to the radiation detectors.
