Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie and 196 supporters sentenced to death in Egypt

An Egyptian court has confirmed death sentences for the leader of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and 196 of his supporters, according to Al Arabiya television network.
The court's decision came two months after it referred the case against the Brotherhood's general guide Mohamed Badie and hundreds of others to the state's highest religious authority, the Mufti the first step towards imposing a death sentence.
Badie faces a second death sentence in a separate case.

Mohammed Badie, leader of the banned group, was among those whose sentences were upheld. Appeals are now likely.
The military-installed government has sentenced at least 1,000 of its opponents since December.
