Netanyahu Warns U.S. Against Working With Iran To Halt ISIS Advance In Iraq

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday said the United States should pit Sunni insurgents in Syria and Iraq against Iran, rather than work with Iran to defeat them.

Netanyahu's comments on NBC's "Meet the Press" were his first on the issue since the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria captured wide swaths of Iraq and opened a land corridor, enabling it to move more easily across the Iraq and Syria.

Netanyahu declined to make specific suggestions but said action needs to be taken to "counter the ISIS takeover of Iraq" and at the same time not allow "Iran to dominate Iraq the way it dominated Lebanon and Syria," the Jerusalem Post reported.

“When your enemies are fighting each other, don't strengthen either one of them. Weaken both,” Netanyahu said as U.S. President Barack Obama considered what support to give the Iraqi government in fighting the militants, who want to establish a caliphate encompassing parts of Syria and northern Iraq.

Lots of right wing critics of Obama have been warning him of what he shouldn't do. But I never hear any solutions being offered describing what he should do. This "action needs to be taken" advice without specifics other than Obama finding a magic wand is getting old.

Yeah..."Let's you and him fight"..

Seems like I remember this from some self-help book - tactics that manipulative people use to stir up trouble.

Netanyahoo is insane.

Will Israel's Prime Minister be coordinating strategies with the Saudi King next?

Both nations benefit from failed states in Syria and Iraq.

Both states are dominated by religious conservatives. They have more in common than most realize.

There are more likely to coordinate strategies with ISIS (which is the proxy army of Saudi Arabia) to topple that Assad administration. They've already set up clinics to treat the injured rebels and the rebels have been caught using weapons with hebrew writing on it. If you ask me, I say Natenyahoo is secretly rooting for ISIS

I wouldn't have thought it was possible. I do, however, see the utility in such an initiative by Netanyahu's government.

Bebe couldn't get the American public to go for attacking Iran so this is his way of bringing that about IF...Obama allows it to happen. Obama has so many enemies and frenemies fighting against him from inside and outside he is just amazing to on going forward.

Remember all the funds, jets and other military items you get from Uncle Sam which we could withhold at any time. You might not want to piss us off.

they're afraid of ending up in the same boat a decade down the road--no beaucoup bucks, no ceremonies of Congresspeople swearing their loyalty en masse, no unconditional impunity on the international stage, no untouchability in media and lobbying

THEY know full well that Nixon had plans to attack Israel as well as Arabia '73, and that the US's "honeymoon" with them only really started with Entebbe, and that Rafael Trujillo was once as favored as they are now--and that none of those things lasted long
