NEW YORK — New York City is poised to approve the creation of municipal identification cards that would allow immigrants living in the country illegally to access key city services they were previously unable to obtain.

should be quite an experience.

If so called "illegal immigrants" are ever to combine into the rest of society, we need to take steps to make a path to citizenship more accessible, more reasonable. I think this is a good step in the right direction.

Does anyone else feel like we should be saying... "You want to be an American? Why? Have you heard of the Tea party and the assholes in this place? But, hell, as long as you're willing to work and pay taxes and maybe vote, we're glad to have you. Welcome aboard. Let's work together to decrease the significance of bigots and morons."

We should be welcoming people - and working together to create a brighter future for all of us.

Sure, they can spew their doom and gloom about how it won't work, but it's in a blue city in a blue state. IF they really believe all the things they say about such a program, they should welcome this as a case study expecting that all the bad things they predict will actually happen. Then if those things do happen as they predict, they can use it to deride any other program that even loosely resembles it.
