It's down to Dallas and Cleveland for 2016 Republican convention

Source: Dallas Morning News

Either Dallas or Cleveland will host the 2016 Republican convention, party leaders decided Wednesday, cutting Denver and Kansas City from contention.

Cleveland is a lakefront city that has invested billions in recent years to shake off its Rust Belt roots, a Democratic stronghold in a key battleground. Dallas is at the center of the modern GOP, home to the party’s last president and an unusually long list of its top donors.

“Cleveland is a tough competitor,” said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.

Said Cleveland’s bid committee chairman, Terry Egger: “There are those that would say we were the underdog all along, yet here we stand.”

Not to help the Republicans at all, but it would be dumb strategically if they picked Dallas. Of course, I have seen some posts saying that the conventions don't really help get the state as much as they used too. So because I can't stand Republicans, I hope they pick Dallas.

They will pick Dallas because no Republican can win without Texas.

I know it sounds crazy, but this is my prediction.

Davis has a great political future, but I just don't see her doing what needs to be done to win at least yet. Maybe she is waiting until early Fall to go full bore. I know she is giving a speech about her filibuster from last year this weekend. We will see and I hope she wins.

So I don't see it helping in this area, but statewide, it is difficult to say. With Cleveland being on the northern edge, will the effect be felt elsewhere in the state?

All I know is if they come here, I may have to leave that week either that or join the protesters.

On the upside:

"Cleveland hasn’t hosted a convention since 1936, when the GOP nominated Kansas Gov. Alf Landon against President Franklin Roosevelt."

I'm not a superstitious sort, but this is one area where Cleveland's track record could come in handy.

... for the economic boost for the community. Dallas is rolling in money, so they don't need it. Knowing the Democratic Party, they'll probably pick the one that doesn't have a labor Union.

The Republican controlled State Senate has worked diligently to sequester Democratic votes with the use of ridiculous gerrymandering. WE DON'T WANT THESE SNAKES PARTYING IN OUR DISTRICT THAT THEY DESPISE AND HAVE ABUSED TERRIBLY. The DNC also is has Cleveland as a finalist and is much more deserving of partying in our back yard. PERIOD.

Republicans are skinflints. They do not tip well, they are mean to wait staff and hotel staff. The only businesses that get money from Republicans are the peep shows.

On the other hand, Denver hosted the DNC in 2008 and it was a love fest.

As a Clevelander, I'm torn between wanting to see the city win for the economic boon it could bring, and the thought of having that many repukes tainting a true blue working town.

The biggest strike against Cleveland is the lack of Hotel space, and the RNC convention in Charlotte will still be fresh in the minds of the GOP, with 4-hour out of state commutes for conventioneers to hotels and motels. The city just can't accommodate 40,000 visitors.

But that might take a back seat to the GOP wanting to promote one of their rising stars, Gov. John Kasich. All the language flowing from his office is that he will soon be a presidential contender. Boehner is another factor, he is another Ohioan.

Personally, I hope they go to Dallas. I don't even want them in my state. They've done absolutely nothing for us. But if they do come here, I've got my protest signs and strategy ready, they won't keep me out of the restricted VIP zone, lol.

I hope that I am wrong. However, the last time it was held in Dallas in 1984, their saint Ronald Reagan was in power. It will be a love fest for him in Dallas. They will believe in fate that Dallas will be an omen for victory for the GOP. I live in the Dallas area, and my T.V. will be turned off that entire time if it happens.

Texas has turned into a radical Teabagger state, which is a side of the Republicans they won't want getting national attention in 2016. Imagine the media covering all the extremist from across Texas who show up to protest the establishment Republicans. They'll have the local groups wielding their long rifles, the anti-choice groups with their disgusting signs, and the 'women should be submissive to their men' religious extremist. Not to mention all the other Texas nuts out there representing what they want the Republicans to own up to endorsing. It could be fun, now that I'm thinking about the possibilities. With a little encouragement from those in the state it could turn into an event of Terri Schiavo proportions.

I know Cleveland could use the money a convention like this would generate, but Dallas could potentially be an entertaining choice.

And I can't think of anything better to rally TX Dems that protesting the RNC convention.

RNC will be remembered as idiots if they pick Dallas and suddenly everyone sees that Dallas is not red. It is very much blue. In the last two Prez election cycles Dallas County did things like kick out all county level repubs. Down ticket repukes suffered from the huge show of POTUS supporters. And I believe it was in 2004 that Dallas voters elected the Dallas County sheriff...a huge deal because not only was she a female, she was also gay.

So, let's see....we will have North TX Dems "welcoming" the RNC and most likely many Austin area (the other blue island in TX) making the short road trip up here...

Sure, come on down....

Given how they have kept Dubya hidden for several years now, think they will even acknowledge his "library" in Dallas?

When is this convention anyway?

edit:
Ok, I guess the stench will begin in mid July 2016, if Dallas is the 'chosen city'.

Plenty of time to plan a getaway.
