Obama to seek border aid; Pelosi visits Texas

Source: AP

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) —President Barack Obama will seek more than $2 billion to respond to the flood of immigrants illegally crossing the border and ask for new powers to deal with returning immigrant children apprehended while traveling without their parents, a White House official said Saturday.

Obama plans to make the requests of Congress in a letter to be sent Monday, the official said.

Details of the emergency appropriation, including the exact amount and how it will be spent, will come after lawmakers return from their holiday recess on July 7, said the official, who was not authorized to speak by name and discussed the requests on condition of anonymity.

Obama will also ask that the Homeland Security Department be granted the authority to apply "fast track" procedures to the screening and deportation of all immigrant children traveling without their parents and that stiffer penalties be applied to those who smuggle children across the border, the official said.

to alleviating/inflaming the situation of the peoples of Central and South America.
Did killing Allende and putsching Pinochet in his place alleviate/inflame the situation?
Do you, USians who no longer have the stomach for doing "body counts" of all your victims, care to count up the ledger?
Even if just for that particular corner of the world.
Or do you count your number among the US neo-fascist right?

El Salvador and several others are plagued with gangs, drugs and corruption. The future for young children in those countries is nearly hopeless. Unless something is done to improve the criminal and corrupt conditions, I'D send my children away, just to save their lives, if for nothing else.

It's time the US focuses on the problems near home, and let the nations around the Middle East deal with that nightmare. We have our own problems to deal with here, in our own front yard!

President Obama should be welcoming these children as our newest americans many died to get here! We didn't vote for obama to send these children back! The president should be the first one to welcome them and Mrs. Clinton second. Don't turn these little angels away begging to stay!
