UK government bids to overturn US haggis ban
Source: BBC
The UK government is making a fresh bid to overturn a decades-long US import ban on traditional Scottish haggis.
Environment Secretary Owen Paterson will raise the issue with senior officials from the Obama administration this week.
Scottish producers had asked Mr Paterson to take action when he visited the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh earlier this month.
Haggis imports have been outlawed in the US since 1971. The ban was put in place because the country's food standards agency prohibits sheep lungs - one of the key ingredients of haggis - in food products.

2. They promise to keep Tony Blair out of the US
3. They lock Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert and/or Steve King in the Tower

I think they do them with synthetic skins anyway ? Used to buy the real McCoy is Selfridges years ago.
You can buy Haggis with synthetic skin in Tesco.

The history of this is that my Morag who died 24 years ago was , yes , Scots. I still root out mutton pies occasionally too.

Worry about stuff like shark fins, worry about nasty conditions in slaughterhouses, but good grief, iff they have time to dick around with haggis, traditional cheese making and the like they have too much money and too many people. There should be automatic exemptions for anything that is traditionally consumed in other countries (again, unless it involves something otherwise harmful to the planet like shark fin soup)
I might be pretty far left, but this FDA either has way too much time on its hands or really bad priorities. Or both.

(50,557 posts)that (1) if they would leave the bloody LUNGS OUT they could import all the bloody haggis they wanted, and
(2) Americans aren't going to eat that shit anyway. There is a reason ye can do an entire Burns Supper for three hundred people with one haggis.

Also, the mark of a good butcher in my opinion is how well they treat their offal.
