White House: Boehner won't seek immigration vote

Source: AP-EXCITE

WASHINGTON (AP) — In the face of an unyielding Congress, President Barack Obama will act on his own to make changes in immigration policy, a White House official said Monday. Obama is expected to refocus immigration enforcement away from the country's interior and onto a Mexican border that has seen a tide of children crossing illegally from Central America, the official said.

This official said that Obama decided to bypass Congress after House speaker John Boehner informed him last week that the House would not vote on an immigration overhaul this year. Obama was expected to address the status of immigration policy later Monday.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the plans ahead of Obama's remarks.

Obama's decision effectively declares that a broad based change in immigration policy is dead for the year, and perhaps for the remainder of his administration. Changing immigration laws and providing a path to citizenship for about 11 million immigrants in the country illegally has been one Obama's top priorities as he sought to conclude his presidency with major second-term victory.

Gheen: Immigrants 'May Smile At You As They Hand You Your Cheeseburger' But They Really Want 'You And Your Whole Family To Die'

Submitted by Miranda Blue on Monday, 6/30/2014 4:47 pm

In an interview with the Tea Party News Network on Saturday, William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) claimed that Mexican American immigrants “may smile at you as they serve you your cheeseburger or peruse across your law with a weed eater” but in reality they want “for you and your whole family to die.” Gheen claimed that Mexican schools teach students to hate America, so those who immigrate to the U.S. show “no type of mercy” to “anyone out there that’s not a flaming socialist, communist or liberal” and will vote Democratic, based on “racial identity” and “what they consider to be reparations.”

14. Actually, Boehner and the Republicans in the House are already angry
Mon Jun 30, 2014, 09:04 PM

enough to take a vote on whether to start a suit concerning the Constitutional separation of powers.

I agree with the President, not the Republicans, on the substance but it does trouble me that the President will be pushing the limit of Presidential power instead of the people throwing out Republicans in Congress in the mid-term elections. I understand the problems with gerrymandering that entrench the Republican party, but I also remember just how much it angered me to see Bush and Nixon try to expand the executive power over Democratic Congressional opposition.

Our system just isn't working very well right now, and I hope that nothing comes along to really blow the system to bits. Who knows what would replace it.

I am sorry, I know this is not something people want to hear.

But, THEY aren't the problem.

"We" are for electing/reelecting them.

than Boehner.

There's no guarantee that any Republican challenger to Boehner would be more to your liking, considering the ideology of most members at this time.

18. What we really need is a Dem majority in the House.

To improve our chances of gaining that majority, we really should try starting now to get more Dem state legislators and governors, because they're the ones that draw (gerrymander) the Congressional district boundaries, as well as the state districts.

Redistricting will happen in 2021, so we have some time, but it's always a good pull for Dems to get out there and vote in Dem state races, particularly for the odd-year elections that a few states use, like Virginia and New Jersey.

Progressive Dem's as well. Not corporate Dem's or DINO's, maybe then we could get some meaningful legislation instead of the wishy washy reach across the isle stuff. It's hard to watch one side being civil to their opponent while the opponent is all or nothing.

then anyone here believes?

Besides it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a significant percentage of the House Democrats are quietly grateful to Boehner for not forcing them to commit themselves right before the election.
