Exclusive: CIA Had Role In Germany Spy Affair

Source: REUTERS

(Reuters) - The Central Intelligence Agency was involved in a spying operation against Germany that led to the alleged recruitment of a German intelligence official and has prompted renewed outrage in Berlin, two U.S. officials familiar with the matter said on Monday.

CIA Director John Brennan has asked to brief key members of the U.S. Congress on the matter, which threatens a new rupture between Washington and a close European ally, one of the officials said.

It was unclear if and when Brennan's briefing to U.S. lawmakers would take place. The CIA declined any comment on the matter.

The office of Germany's Federal Prosecutor, based in the western city of Karlsruhe, late last week issued a statement saying that a 31-year old man had been arrested on suspicion of being a foreign spy, and that investigations were continuing. The statement offered no further details.

Merkel Says U.S Spying Allegations Are Serious

(Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday allegations that a German man had worked as a double agent for U.S. intelligence were serious and, if true, were a clear contradiction of what cooperation between partners is supposed to be about.

The case risks further straining ties with Washington, which have been sorely tested by revelations last year of large-scale snooping on Germany by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).

"If the reports are correct it would be a serious case,"Merkel told a news conference in Beijing, standing next to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

"If the allegations are true, it would be for me a clear contradiction as to what I consider to be trusting cooperation between agencies and partners."

Why is US, and the CIA, NSA and the rest of the alphabet soup annoying some of the best allies the US have in Europe - by spying on it as deep as they have been seen to have - even eirdrop on private communication of the german chansler no less... If US treat their friends that way - good know how US is treating their enemies who really want to do harm to the US...

Central Unintelligent Agency?

or how about CMA. Central Moronic Agency.

If you want to know what a friend is doing or thinking, ask. If they don't give you a straight answer, ask again. And if you still don't get a straight answer, ask them whether they still want to be your friend.

Don't spy on them.

Not me.

So I understand the US...

Who know if Putin don't have a file on her ?

Nobody trust Merkel. Even herself.

If USA got only one spy on Merkel, I will be surprise.
You should have more.
