Miami Police detective says racism "alive and well"
By Tom Brown | Reuters – 7 hrs ago.

MIAMI (Reuters) - A black veteran Miami police officer said on Tuesday that "racism is alive and well" in the United States and is evident in the case of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed African American teenager gunned down by a neighborhood watch volunteer in central Florida last month.

George Zimmerman, the white Hispanic crime watch volunteer, has managed to avoid arrest under Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law because he said he shot and killed Martin in self-defense.

But Miami Police Department homicide detective Sergeant Ervens Ford, who has joined in public protests to demand justice for Martin, said in an interview that the law does not apply in the racially tinged case.

"He (Martin) would have had a better 'Stand Your Ground' (case) than Zimmerman," Ford said.

Took a black president to enrage the bigots to the point where they forgot all about laying low and whispering amongst themselves.

He's right, right, right! Zimmerman doesn't have any ground to stand on.

shoot people down at night and swear it was "self defense" and then go unpunished? Don't like your boss? Hate your Mother-in-law? Tired of those nagging bill collectors and ex wives? Move to Jebbyville Florida...

This Stand Your Ground Law, should be tied to Jeb Bush’s tail like a political firecracker. The “Jeb Bush Vigilante Law”

The law will protect you as long as you're shooting "down". But shooting "up", killing your betters, is still a capital crime.

Well, no, if you are non-white, or poor, or unrelated to a judge.

There it is. That's where the Sanford police department's excuse that this was justified as self-defense falls apart. Even if Trayvon Martin hit Zimmerman (not proven at all, either), he was fully justified in hitting somebody who was following him, according to the Stand Your Ground law.

run him down and rob him? Zimmerman was not wearing or displaying any sign of authority, except his weapon. No badge, no uniform? How would Trayvon Martin have known that the guy following him wasn't a "Bad Guy"? I probably would have hit a stranger that came after me in the dark too? Sounds like Trayvon Martin acted in self defense, if, he struck Zimmerman as he ran up in the dark with a gun. Sounds like Zimmerman had the Barney Fife syndrome and it got to the point that he had to go out and act out his wet dream.

Zimmerman's prior arrests should have put him away where he couldn't have hurt anyone, or at least he wouldn't have a firearm, but his daddy's the retired judge maybe pulled some strings. So justice may have been miss-laid, for whatever reason.
