LeBron James Returns To Cleveland Cavaliers
Source: The Boston Globe
LeBron James is going home.
The 10-time All-Star reached a deal to join the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent, , which marks a dramatic reunion with a team he jilted four years ago. James made the announcement in an essay for Sports Illustrated.
James is leaving behind a Miami Heat franchise he joined as a free agent in 2010 before winning two NBA titles and reaching four straight NBA Finals. His move now could have seismic repercussions across the NBA. In the essay, James, an Ohio native, said his bond with his home state was a big factor in the decision. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball, he said. I didnt realize that four years ago. I do now.
He added winning a championship for Cleveland is whats most important for him now.

(25,704 posts)No promises, no prime-time special. The only thing to dislike about him was that stupid show. And though he could not care less what I think, I wish him well, except when he plays the Bulls.

(44,577 posts)I always believed that Id return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didnt know when...I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasnt going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland...
The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned...It was easy to say, OK, I dont want to deal with these people ever again. But...What if I (had been) a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react?
Ive met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. Weve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. Ive made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?
Who are you to hold a GRUDGE? Why don't you APOLOGIZE for it, then. As the joke goes, we've established what you are, and Cleveland has met your price.

Cleveland has some promising young talent and Dwyane Wade is a spent force is more like it.

(4,144 posts)LeBron may be a fan favorite now like Mike Jordan, who doesnt love a good fairytale story? Cleveland hasn't won a major sports title since 1964

(39,377 posts)a better chance for more titles and to mend old wounds. Those are worthy goals but they don't make his quote any less cringe-worthy. Why not just tell it like it is? His motives are fine.

(9,350 posts)I really thought he was bluffing to get Miami to get him a better team and a better coach. However, when you look at what has happened to Cleveland in the last few years; Cleveland seems to be on an upswing. They have been able to get three good quality first round picks in the last three years. LeBron James will be going from one of the oldest teams to one of the youngest teams.

(5,927 posts)go on and win an NBA title. I haven't cared much about basketball since the Pistons were good, but I'd love to see Cleveland get any sports title. Even the Browns....unless you're playing my Lions.

A good player doesn't make a good manager.

(17,865 posts)and I will be rooting for the Spurs next year, but I do not think it is unreasonable to take your talent to the best situation you can find. Free agency is a fact of life - just like you can leave your employer if a better deal comes along. Nothing is wrong with it. Frankly Bosch and Wade gave him very little support this year. Going the free agency route is not quiting. 2 titles and 2 nba finals appearances in four years is an impressive record in anyone's book. Jerry West only won one title for example. Chamberlain won only two. Bird only three. Dr. J and Moses Malone one NBA title. Baylor, Stockton, Barkley, Karl Malone, and Ewing never won one.

(25,029 posts)The man is too big, the man is too strong. Too fast, to quick. The man is too skilled, probably can legitimately play all five spots on both ends, four at a Hall of Fame/consistent All Star level. Might be too short to be a dominant center on defense but otherwise he is probably top 5 at every other position (yes, including the point), I don't know if that could be seriously said about any other player at that level. Even Pippin was more of a 1 - 3 type.
Does he have that Jordan force of will? I don't know if I can say that but I'm comfortable saying he carries more of the load and that takes a considerable mental toughness so combined with the talent and skill he is probably the greatest force of nature in a couple or three generations.
And I'm not a fan of his or his teams really, just a wowed fan of the sport. I'm a Kentucky fan, the guy is like Mashburn perfected and magnified, pretty much a ridiculous monster, a made up Playstation fantasy player that makes your game crash if you actually put him on a team.

(1,423 posts)Its too bad he didn't have the teammates and philosophy that the Spurs have. He's win 10 championships then.

(4,636 posts)What a joke.. Lebron betrays Cleveland 4 years ago,Because he could not win a title with the Cavs leaves to south beach...Now realizes that the Heat are getting old and now just leave Miami.
