Tommy Ramone, Last Surviving Original Member of Influential Punk Band, Dies at 65
Source: Variety
Drummer and producer Tommy Ramone, the last surviving original member of the influential New York punk quartet the Ramones, died Friday at his home in the Ridgewood area of Queens, New York. He was 65 and had been in hospice care following treatment for bile duct cancer.
Born Erdelyi Tamas in Budapest, Hungary, and known professionally as Tom or T. Erdelyi, Ramone played on the first three epoch-making Ramones albums, Ramones (1976), Leave Home (1977) and Rocket to Russia (1977). He also co-produced the latter two albums with Tony Bongiovi and Ed Stasium, respectively. He appeared on and co-produced the 1979 live Ramones opus Its Alive.

RIP. For any of the "punks" on DU, this one hurts.

(401 posts)and I even named my cat after them. A pathbreaking punk band.
God, but they all had a wretched time of it. But I'm sorry they're all gone.

(14,560 posts)Did you know Tommy came up with the style of drumming that made their songs so distinctive.
When he left as drummer he still helped produce their early albums and again later..
We saw the RAMONES a 1/2 dozen times, but never with Tommy there on stage.
Marky was the drummer each time we saw them...even though he was left out and brought back after a while.
"It's Alive" is one of the best live albums, ever...
Doug Colvin was a musical genius...one of the best composers/lyricist..ever.
I was in love with Joey..
