Trayvon Martin Case: Department of Justice to investigate entire Sanford Police Department

Source: Palm Beach News

SANFORD — The Trayvon Martin case is bringing more scrutiny on the Sanford Police Department. The Department of Justice will now investigate all cases handled by the police department, after receiving complaints from Sanford citizens.

It's been more than a month since 17-year-old Martin was killed and only a week since the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI launched investigations into why George Zimmerman shot him. Now, the Department of Justice is launching another investigation into the entire Sanford Police Department.

"The citizens of Sanford will continue to have some idea that their concerns would be heard by an independent agency when they have issues with the Sanford Police Department," said Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte.

Bonaparte announced the new investigation Tuesday afternoon after receiving numerous complaints about the way officers handled other cases.

Holder has NOT impressed me with his concern for the little guy.
DOJ has been a caricature from Bush onward.

(or the most vocal ones) based on racism?

I am NOT happy with the priorities DOJ has chosen, but racism? Surely even they can't fuck that up.

Look at all the racial profiling laws that have gone on the books all over the country and how little pushback there has been.

But at least there is some distance between the corruption in Florida and the corruption in DOJ. For now, anyway.

On a crime forum where I hang out, many of the participants don't understand why the black citizens of Sanford are so angry and so willing to believe that the police would cover up the killing of a young black man. They don't believe the history of malfeasance in Sanford. Of course, most of those are probably white, many are women, and a good dose are right wing (as evidenced by the sources they will believe over the ones they refuse to believe).

Unless they fire nearly every person in the Sanford PD and replace them with verified reputable officers from another part of the country, they will never be able to clean up this morass.

I think this "corruption" and/or negligence goes higher up the food chain.

by the entire Bushhole administration. What a great feeling knowing that some criminal neighborhood watch thug/bigot will be held accountable but torturers, conspirators to commit war, felony wiretapping, propagandists, election rigging, criminal banks, abusive police departments and criminal speculators will be allowed to go untouched.

I feel so safe now, LOL.
