Sheldon Adelson on Newt: ‘He’s at the end of his line’

Source: Jewish Journal

Sheldon Adelson, who with wife Miri, has given more than $15 million to the Newt Gingrich Super PAC Winning Our Future, said Monday he believes Gingrich is “at the end of his line” regarding the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Adelson was speaking informally to a small group at his Las Vegas hotel and casino, The Venetian, which hosted The Jewish Federations of North America’s second annual TribeFest, a three-day leadership and networking retreat that attracted more than 1,400 Jewish professionals.

Adelson also bankrolled Freedom's Watch, the now defunct 501 c4 that poured millions into electing Republicans to Congress in 2008. The result: Republicans lost 21 House seats and 8 more in the Senate. Freedom's Watch closed up shop two months later.

It stymies me why these overrich meddlers and corrupters of the system are so involved with further meddling and corrupting. Isn't the system biased far enough in their favor? They need to throw money at causes and candidates to get an even bigger edge? And yet, they also moan and complain about the prospect of being taxed an additional three cents on the dollar for annual "earnings" above a quarter million a year.

There is a crying need for tax reform and finding more productive uses for the millions of dollars Mr. Adelson squanders.

He bankrolled Noot long enough to take a sufficient number of votes away votes from Santorum. Now that Santorum's stupid has come out Mittens has the nomination wrapped up and Noot is no longer needed.

They needed to split the anti-Romney vote long enough to let Rmoney take an unmatchable lead. Money made that happen. And now he wins even if he technically loses most of the remaining states. Which isn't overly likely. So they can stop dumping money into the effort.

WASHINGTON -- Billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his family, who have kept Newt Gingrich's flagging presidential campaign alive with donations, seem poised to send millions of dollars to Republican-allied groups and possibly a "super" political action committee backing front-runner Mitt Romney, according to fundraisers with ties to the casino owner.

Adelson, his wife Miriam and other family members have donated $16.5 million to a Gingrich-backing super PAC, which is allowed by law to take unlimited campaign donations.

A private dinner March 22 at Adelson's Las Vegas home drew the chairman of the Republican National Committee plus some of the GOP's best-known fundraisers and donors. The diners were in Las Vegas early for a weekend summit of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy group that Adelson has backed heavily.

During the soiree, the Adelson family members privately sent strong signals to Romney allies that they'd donate millions of dollars, perhaps on par with their support for Gingrich, to a super PAC that has heavily supported the former Massachusetts governor's campaign for the GOP presidential nomination - assuming that Gingrich eventually drops out. Gingrich is badly trailing and as of the end of February, his campaign was in debt.
