U.S. Advises Americans to Put Off Travel to Israel
Source: New York Times
The United States government on Monday suggested that Americans avoid travel to Israel if possible because of the increasingly deadly Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza and the rockets fired into widespread parts of Israeli territory including cities.
A travel warning posted on the State Department website, which recommended that citizens consider the deferral of non-essential travel to Israel, essentially expanded a longstanding advisory urging American citizens to avoid travel to the Israeli-occupied West Bank and a stronger warning against travel to Gaza, where the Israeli military has been warring with Hamas and other Palestinian militants for the past two weeks.
The security environment remains complex in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, and U.S. citizens need to be aware of the risks of travel to these areas because of the current conflict between Hamas and Israel, the State Department warning said.

(20,819 posts)that they displace and discriminate against an entire group of people, many of them whose families were THERE FIRST, in order to build such "infrastructure"? How is that any different from the sufferings brought on by anti-Semitism? It is NO different at all. Suffering persecution and discrimination does not then give a group the right to turn around and do the same damned thing to another group. I am ashamed and disgusted that my tax money goes to that.

I'm pretty sure its not written anywhere in Israel that they don't except the Muslim people but I know for a fact its in the Hamas charter that Israel must be destroyed.

(487 posts)You have your versions and I have mine and unless you and I were there at the time we will just go round and round. Fact is, in 1967 Israel was invited by three countries and by the rules of war, won that land. They were not the aggressors but they finished it. They gave the land back in the name of peace and consistently have been attacked from the very land they gave back.
If you can tell me that Hamas wants peace with Israel and its Israel that is impeding said peace I will agree with you, but we all know the truth. How is it that Israel can have a peace with Egypt as long as they have but not Hamas. More facts, the Palestinians have been pawns of the Muslim people for a very long time, many more Palestinians have been killed by Muslim countries than Israel. I wonder if it only counts to some on this board because its Israel.
Maybe Hamas should be building hospitals and schools instead of using the same building equipment to build tunnels and bunkers to attack Israel.
azurnoir
(45,850 posts)and how is it that Israel can have peace with Egypt but not Hamas? For starters is Israel blockading Egypt's waters and airspace? Is Israel blockading Epypt's borders? Oh and Egypt has things like an actual air-force, tanks, artillery guns and has given Israel quite a run for its money in the past
as for '67 Israel started the war by attacking Egypt when Egypt blockaded it's own territorial waters
Iamthetruth
(487 posts)"Our objective is the freeing of Palestine and the liquidation of the Zionist existence," declared the Syrian chief of staff, while the Iraqi president proclaimed, "Our goal is clear -- to wipe Israel off the face of the map." Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, who ousted U.N. peacekeepers from the Egypt-Israel border and blockaded Israeli shipping through the Straits of Tiran, foresaw a "total war . . . aimed at Israel's destruction." Bracing themselves for the onslaught, Israelis called up their army reserve, hoarded gas masks, and dug trenches and thousands of graves. Yet even these preparations seemed insufficient. "We shall destroy Israel and prepare boats to deport the survivors," the Palestine Liberation Organization pledged, "if there are any."
Those are direct quotes, and you have it completely wrong and backwards.
Let me help you out even more, from the Hamas Charter
Article 13Article Thirteen: Peaceful Solutions, [Peace] Initiatives and International Conferences
[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. For renouncing any part of Palestine means renouncing part of the religion; the nationalism of the Islamic Resistance Movement is part of its faith, the movement educates its members to adhere to its principles and to raise the banner of Allah over their homeland as they fight their Jihad: Allah is the all-powerful, but most people are not aware. From time to time a clamoring is voiced, to hold an International Conference in search for a solution to the problem. Some accept the idea, others reject it, for one reason or another, demanding the implementation of this or that condition, as a prerequisite for agreeing to convene the Conference or for participating in it. But the Islamic Resistance Movement, which is aware of the [prospective] parties to this conference, and of their past and present positions towards the problems of the Muslims, does not believe that those conferences are capable of responding to demands, or of restoring rights or doing justice to the oppressed. Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the nonbelievers as arbitrators in the lands of Islam. Since when did the Unbelievers do justice to the Believers? And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor will the Christians, till thou follow their creed. Say: Lo! the guidance of Allah [himself] is the Guidance. And if you should follow their desires after the knowledge which has come unto thee, then you would have from Allah no protecting friend nor helper. Sura 2 (the Cow), verse 120 There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. The initiatives, proposals and International Conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility. The Palestinian people are too noble to have their future, their right and their destiny submitted to a vain game.
Hamas does not want peace and no matter what Israel does short of packing up every Jew and leaving this planet will they be satisfied but even that won't stop it and you know it.

(13,184 posts)A computer lab staffed by students in an Israeli university is playing a key role in the war of information in the Gaza conflict.
Inspired by the role of social media during the Arab Spring and boosted by the support of the Israeli government and Israel Defence Force, student volunteers at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, a private university north of Tel Aviv, are waging their own propaganda war countering online anti-Israeli sentiment.
Staffed by approximately 400 student volunteers the project which goes by the name "Israel Under Fire", claims to have succeeded in closing anti-Israeli pages on Facebook and challenging propaganda from Hamas, the organisation that governs the Gaza Strip and whose military arm is firing rockets at Israel.
According to Igal Raich, a 23-year-old IDC student who volunteers in what is called "The Advocacy Room", the project aims to counter what is perceived as a false representation of Israel in international and social media through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
"It is run by students who are all volunteers," said Raich, who grew up in Canada before moving to Israel to study and also served in the Israeli military. "The school gave us a computer lab to work from and from nine in the morning until eight at night it is constantly full with student volunteers."

(22,651 posts)Seriously though, the Pal and all the people from that area of the world have thousands of years of history. And the past 100 years have pretty much settled what countries will be there forever more. I very much doubt 'The Kingdom of Israel' will ever go away again. The Pals and all other countries will have to work something out or they will be evicted if there are missiles or human bombs set off.
That area is the birthplace of written religions. The birthplace of the 3 major religions in general.

And when the seminary I attend sponsored an Israel-Palestine expedition, the report the students and accompanying faculty brought back regarding occupation conditions suffered by Palestinians and Gaza, it was especially infuriating. Even the Jewish students at the seminary (it's Christian, but ecumenical, so we also have Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc., students. Hell, we even have some atheist and agnostic students, lol!) were horrified; some already knew of it and were against such policies.

Matthew 19 vs 13-15
13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." 15 After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.
