Pope Francis Enjoys Casual Cafeteria Lunch With Surprised Vatican Workers

Source: Huffington Post

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Do you make the pope pay for lunch?

Pope Francis popped in unannounced at the Vatican workers' cafeteria Friday and lined up, tray in hand, along with stunned diners.

Cashier Claudia Di Giacomo told Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano that when Francis presented his tray with a plate of cod, a bowl of fusilli pasta without sauce, a side of grilled tomatoes and "just a few" french fries, she "didn't have the courage to hand him the bill."

Francis chatted with his tablemates -- five Vatican pharmacy stock clerks. His tip? A papal blessing and photos snapped with diners, said the cafeteria chef, Franco Paini.

This Pope has not parted with the long-held doctrines of the RCC that subjugate women and others to a second-class status.

He has done a damned good PR offensive to make the church look less judgmental and horrible. However, he has not changed any doctrine that the Church espouses. Those doctrines that condemn women and LGBT people.

The RCC condemns women for just being women. Don't take my word for it. Read their texts.

but he has only been in the job a little over a year. When President Obama was over a year, he was still revolving his beliefs of gay marriage. Things are slow to change. If five years from now, we are still here at the same situation than I think criticism could be justified. No I don't think we will have a full liberal Catholic Religion, but we have no idea what the Pope will do in the future.

At the time President Obama's stance was still evolving, he was not crusading against the rights of women and LGBTs. (And, BTW, I was highly critical of Obama for his non-support.) Pope Francis still does. He speaks out against reproductive rights, gay marriage, gay adoption. He calls childless couples "selfish". He fails to speak out when his own bishops and archbishops are complicit in the horrible oppression of LGBTS in Uganda and Nigeria. He says nothing when his own archbishop here in the US was a guest speaker at an anti-gay march on Washington, yet found time to twitter his support for anti-choice marchers in D.C. He heads an institution which is NOW, RIGHT NOW unleashing unrelenting attacks on the rights of women and LGBTs here at home with such a litany of lawsuits and legislation I couldn't begin to have time to list them all here.

Give him five years? Five years to do what? Make more anti-gay speeches? Condemn contraception and reproductive choice? Pose for more pictures while his bishops and archbishops continue their daily attacks, such as these?

You'll have to pardon me for not feeling so enthused about Francis popping in to the Vatican cafeteria (where, from the looks of things, women aren't allowed) when I'm fighting my ass off for the rights of women and LGBTs. Face it, folks -- he is the leader of one of the most powerful and activist anti-woman, anti-gay institutions on the planet. I really don't give a rat's ass if he eats a cheese sandwich or drives an old car.

Real news is that he's decided to come to Philadelphia next year for the "World Meeting of Families". Sounds nice, doesn't it? Well, think "National March for Marriage" if you want an idea of the agenda.

In the meanwhile, I'll be spending the next five years fighting these same forces in the battle for the rights of women and LGBTs. To find a thread on LBN, of all places, about Francis slumming in the cafeteria and to the tune of gushing praise is something I find insulting in the extreme.

And my personal ones are quite different. A person, which the Pope is, does not have to pass a 150% "Purely Test" for I can admire his work.

In addition, as a person of religious Faith, it is nice to finally experience a Pope who practices the priniciples in the Bible where no Man or Woman deserves or should be Worshiped as a False Idol. In other words, the Pope is a Common Man with the title of Pope.

If you want others to respect your position on subjects matters, respect theirs. Even on areas where disagreements exist, respect the principle on where their position is formed.

No dripping necessary.

Nonetheless, I will kindly back up my statements with facts, which I'm sure you would prefer not to hear. Actions and words? Let's review what I said in post #22:

At the time President Obama's stance was still evolving, he was not crusading against the rights of women and LGBTs. (And, BTW, I was highly critical of Obama for his non-support.) Pope Francis still does. He speaks out against reproductive rights, gay marriage, gay adoption. He calls childless couples "selfish".

I shall skip over addressing the last sentence about the lawsuits, lobbying and legislation, as that is being carried out by his bishops, archbishops and other organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, Legatus, The Beckett Fund, etc. That would take several posts in order to list all the evidence and facts, of which you should already be aware.

As for the rest, this is the reality as opposed to the fantasy....
