House Passes Ryan's Medicare Overhaul Bill

Source: Medpage

WASHINGTON -- The House of Representatives has voted 228-191 to pass Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) fiscal 2013 budget bill, which would drastically change Medicare.

Ryan's budget proposal contains provisions to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), overhaul Medicare and Medicaid, drastically cut nondefense spending over the next decade, and reshape the U.S. tax code.

It would turn Medicare into a "premium support" system starting in 2025 when Medicare beneficiaries would be given a choice between traditional fee-for-service Medicare and several private insurance plans.

Once a beneficiary chooses a plan, the government would send that plan a "premium support" payment equal to either the cost of traditional Medicare or the second least-expensive private plan, whichever is less. Beneficiaries who chose a plan costing more than the amount of the premium support payment would have to make up the difference.

The proposal also would change the Medicaid program -- currently a joint federal/state program that guarantees a specific set of benefits -- into a block-grant program, in which states would receive a set amount of money to spend for Medicaid.

The bill is not expected to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate.

After all they have been able to withstand a heck of alot of scandals and they even made a resurgence less than 2 years after being kicked out of controlling the house and guiding out nation into the worse economic problems its had since the great depression.

...and vouchers will be issued to purchase insurance from private corporations, how is this much different from the ACA provisions.

Also, if we "privatize" Social Security wouldn't we be buying investment plans from private brokerage firms. Is that unconstitutional?

The short answer is unconstitutional is largely in the eye of the beholder...

then most citizens won't know that congress is about to screw them. I can just imagine those on WS rubbing their hands together like simon "legreed" just salivating over the windfall they'll get from the duped.

It tells you all you need to know about some of the immoral greedy arseholes in congress. They'd sell any american to the highest bidder-money trumps all. Now I wonder how many in congress will see profits for their private portfolios.

I am sick of the greedfest in this country. What I'm seeing is "hey let's screw grandma, grandpa, the sick-we can make a whole lot of moolah." Oh, wait, I believe that was enron's attitude about screwing grandma. Unfekking believable.

So who voted for this shyster and the rest of the shysters for this SCHEME?
