Kerry Calls on Qatar and Turkey to Gain Release of Israeli Soldier

Source: New York Times

RAMSTEIN, Germany —

Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday urged Qatar and Turkey to use their influence to secure the release of an Israeli soldier who had been abducted in Gaza shortly after an announced cease-fire was to go into effect.

“Hamas, which has security control over the Gaza Strip, must immediately and unconditionally release the missing Israeli soldier, and I call on those with influence over Hamas to reinforce this message,” Mr. Kerry said in a statement.

Mr. Kerry learned of the abduction from an aide who was monitoring reports on the cease-fire while he was flying to the United States from New Delhi, where he met with the new prime minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Mr. Kerry made a flurry of calls to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah of Qatar and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey. He also spoke with Robert H. Serry, the United Nations special coordinator in Gaza.

Somehow I doubt either country's leadership will respond favorably to this request.

This is just another example of how bizarrely one-sided the discourse is on Israel and Palestine.

Non-uniformed terrorists are not soldiers in any sense of the word or code. I suspect the intelligent people of Gaza are coming around to the reality of how bad these Hamas terrorists really are. Their willingness to be pawns in the Hamas game of terror is likely to be quickly fading.

Why is Kerry spending so much on an Israeli soldier? Oh, that's tight, I forgot - America exists to do Bibi's bidding.
