GOP voters apparently oust U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio

Source: Oakland Press (Pontiac, MI)

Republican voters have apparently ousted first-term U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, two years after he was thrust into Congress when former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter’s campaign imploded when there not enough valid signatures to put him on the ballot in 2012.

Oakland County voters overwhelmingly went for Birmingham attorney Dave Trott in the GOP primary in the 11th Congressional District, spanning central and west Oakland County plus parts of northwest Wayne County.

Among Oakland County GOP voters, Trott held a 2-1 lead over Bentivolio with 179 of 182 precincts counted. Trott also held a similar lead in Wayne County in early returns.

On the Democratic side, Anil Kumar held a two percentage point lead over Bobbie McKenzie with Nancy Skinner and Bill Roberts trailing. McKenzie was ahead in Wayne County in early returns with significantly fewer numbers reported.

Politico also covered this as did the AP and Detroit Free Press.

Yet another loss for the Tea Party. The two Tea Partiers who ousted incumbents this year? Dave Brat (against Eric Cantor) and John Ratcliffe (over Ralph Hall). But Milton Wolf (against Pat Roberts), Chris McDaniel (against Thad Cochran...but still whining about it!), Matt Bevin (against Mitch McConnell), Steve Stockman (against John Cornyn)...who else did I forget...ehh.

This guy never should've been in Congress in the first place, given his behavioral issues as a teacher and apparent creepy vibes.

What a crazy district this is. Their incumbent (Thaddeus McCotter) went from potential presidential candidate to resignation in disgrace after his ballot petitions were found to be largely forged. Then they elect a behaviorally problematic teacher and professional Santa Claus to office. And the guy didn't even qualify for re-election.

If you live in Bentivolio's district please get the vote out for Anil Kumar. (Like Syed Taj in 2012, the Democrat running for this district's seat is also a doctor of Indian descent!) Website: http://www.kumarforuscongress.com/

Yes, the Nancy Skinner mentioned here is the radio host.

If "Democrats" voted for this vulture capitalist who made his fortune off of foreclosures, thinking that he'd be better, then they should become Republicans. Mr. Dave Trott is a Republican through and through, and I mean that in the most unflattering way possible.

Bentivolio was a clown candidate who may have had a chance of getting beaten by a Democrat.

Not only is Trott a poster boy for vulture capitalism by making his personal wealth off foreclosures, but he's in tight with the GOP elite and will have a slick political operation which will shoo him into Congress. And once he gets in, he will strategically vote for the corporatocracy, rather than make ideological votes which look bad even in the scope of the GOP.

If you think that this scumbag is better than some random clown like Bentivolio, then you're sorely mistaken.

But it appears that the rethugs received about 66% of the votes cast. That's going to be hard to overcome.

I agree that Bentivolio is more beatable but it was not realistic to believe that the GOP would re-nominate this idiot.

Wouldn't those kind of ads motivate voters to vote for Kumar?

IMHO, Skinner would have had the best chance to defeat Trott, a well-monied foreclosure lawyer. She was the only one to really go after this guy among the Dems running. The 11th District will likely stay R. Pfffft
