Israel agrees Gaza truce extension, no word from Hamas

Israel has agreed to extend a three-day ceasefire in Gaza which began on Tuesday after nearly a month of conflict, Israeli officials say.
There has been no comment yet from the militant Palestinian movement Hamas, which controls Gaza.

(37,364 posts)Hamas to govern? Perhaps a recognition of the democratically elected government of that people mught be a good place to start. You can't demand tbat a people engage in such a process and deny the validity of their choices.

(6,241 posts)the Hamas government? Israel is saying that they want to extend the cease fire. Hamas either doesn't agree, or won't respond to Israel. So Israel is putting it out there to the world that they want the fighting to stop. Now it's up to Hamas to either agree to the continued cease fire, or to start shooting rockets again.

They claim senior Cairo-based Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk said on Twitter: "There is no agreement on extension."
