Netanyahu asks U.S. lawmakers to help fend off war crimes charges
Source: Haaretz
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked United States legislators to assist Israel in fending off charges that Israel committed war crimes during its month-long operation in Gaza, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
The prime minister asked us to work together to ensure that this strategy of going to the International Criminal Court does not succeed, Democratic congressman Steve Israel told the Post by phone from Tel Aviv.
Israel was one of a group of American lawmakers who met with Netanyahu in Israel on Wednesday.
Palestinian leaders met with ICC officials in The Hague this week, preparatory to making a formal application to join the international tribunal.

You can bet the farm on that. When it comes to arming Israel with the weapons to kill and maim more Palestinians, few of our Senators or Representatives (of either Party) remember anything about a deficit. As far as providing those same Israeli leaders with all the diplomatic cover they need to avoid responsibility for their war crimes, that is just a given.

(45,984 posts)But it's important to look back and understand how afraid his folks were that they would resort to things like bombing schools and hospitals. Hey, at least we're looking at them as "folks" and not just some "little snakes." I think we can understand how a right wing moron in the Knesset would call Palestinian children "little snakes," too.
Of course, any one who can make those make those kinds of excuses for Bibi the Butcher and the rest of the Israeli right can also make excuses for Hamas and their crude rockets. Can't we call out both sides for their excesses without forgetting they are human beings?
Having said that as a human being, I would not want to see members of Congress become complicit in Bibi crimes.

(4,192 posts)of war crimes. Not on my to-do list for today thankfully. But gee, Netanyahu, if you're so confident in the rightness of your actions, shouldn't your justifications be your defense? If you *had* to do it, that shouldn't be hard to explain.
This sounds like the conspiracy of criminals. We can only guess which senators will rise to the occasion. Justice isn't the goal here. Winning is.
why do you worry about fending off accusations of war crimes unless you have committed war crimes.
