What started as the hashtag #NMOS14 on Twitter after the death of an unarmed 18-year-old man in Ferguson, Mo. exploded overnight into a nationwide movement aimed at honoring the dead teen and protesting police brutality.
Today at 7 p.m., hundreds of thousands who have watched the ongoing unrest worsen in the St. Louis suburb are expected to gather in cities across the country for a National Moment of Silence honoring Michael Brown and others killed by excessive police force.
Orlando residents will rally downtown at the Lake Eola Amphitheater on Rosalind Avenue to join the #NMOS14 movement.
Participants are asked to wear a red ribbon, cloth or bandanna "on your right arm to show solidarity," according to the Orlando event's Facebook page.
The popular Twitter activist @FeministaJones started the #NMOS14 hashtag and word of the nationwide protest spread like wildfire.
