UK: Police face racism scandal after black man records abuse (Contains Offensive Language)
Source: The Guardian
Scotland Yard is facing a racism scandal after a black man used his mobile phone to record police officers subjecting him to a tirade of abuse in which he was told: "The problem with you is you will always be a nigger".
The recording, obtained by the Guardian, was made by the 21-year-old after he was stopped in his car, arrested and placed in a police van the day after last summer's riots.
The man, from Beckton, east London, said he was made to feel "like an animal" by police. He has also accused one officer of kneeling on his chest and strangling him.
In the recording, a police officer can be heard admitting he strangled the man because he was "a cunt". Moments later, another officer identified by investigators as PC Alex MacFarlane subjects the man to a succession of racist insults and adds: "You'll always have black skin. Don't hide behind your colour."

(53,661 posts)Sounds like the officer is the one with the faulty mental condition. He needs a course in logic, psychology, or something. This is as goofy as the wingnuts painting all blacks as criminals here.

(1 post)I'm a British born Asian and roughly 6 years ago, whilst out delivering for work was cornered by a group of no less than ten thugs. After much mouthing I was told by them to "watch". Nothing happened but from that moment onwards I felt unsafe about delivering to certain estates. A friend of mine had given me a kendo stick after the event and I had kept this in the back seat ever since as a form of self defence if such situation was to ever occur again. One day whilst driving normally, a bully van had followed behind and sirens went off. I got out, no aggro and asked the officer what was wrong. He told me that I looked a bit too young and demanded I clarify myself. Passed him my license and all, then another officer had inspected the back of my car and discovered the kendo stick. After being confronted about the stick, without thinking, I explained exactly why I had it, for self defence due to what happened before. I got arrested and put in the back. Throughout the journey to the station, I was racially mocked at, comments of Kung Fu this, Bruce Lee that. Unfortunately I was young at the time and didn't know my rights, but most of all, phones didn't have a voice recorder like now.
Was going to post this comment on Yahoo News too, but decided not to after seeing the red neck audience's responses.

(11,689 posts)Until police departments give up looking for authoritarian types to fill their ranks and start selecting for more liberal values. I would go so far as to say every police department on the planet is a hotbed of right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) (more about that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_authoritarianism). It can't be helped. If you want to instill public order in a cheap, quick fashion, there are plenty of these types willing to do it, and they all can't wait to be given a badge and a club.
They need to be put on a short leash and told point-blank that in order to advance, they need to drop their RWA attitudes. It might even be better to draft police recruits straight out of high school and have a training program designed to weed out the more authoritarian personality types. That way, the cops that are left will be more concerned with helping people than in controlling them.

(2,198 posts)just plain "racism." But "racism" has come to mean "anti black or brown skin." Ironic that most of wealth of the world is found in lands belonging to people of color and have been taken by force of war and the people whose lands were stolen have been labeled as the villains of the world.
