Source: Beloit Daily News
Data from the 2010 Census showed Wisconsin had the highest percentage of incarcerated black men in the nation. One out of every eight black men of working age was behind bars at some point in their lives, according to a 2013 report from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute.
The report found the incarceration rate of African American men in Wisconsin is nearly double the national average of 6.7 percent, or one in 15.

I read this this morning. It needs sharing.
My mostly suppressed evil side sees a lot of mileage for Wisconsin Democrats in this, Can we say core of a voter registration drive?

(4,996 posts)for the study is from 2010. How is the incarceration rate prior to Walker becoming governor his fault?

(8,526 posts)He's been too busy arranging for the absconding of taxpayer money by his buddies who will turn around and give him a tithe for his campaign.
And it's only the census data that is from 2010. If you look at the original study, it includes data as recently as 2012.

I'm thinking the unannounced yet fully intended consequences of the Koch funded experiment that is now, Wisconsin.
The spawn of the John Birch Society has it's father's eyes, blood shot, beady, and constantly looking for a way to subjugate non-whites.

(8,526 posts)And no private prisons, either. We fuck up the lives of black men entirely on the taxpayer's back.
On edit - I was wrong. My bad.

"Thanks to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) prison chain gangs are no longer a thing of the past. After successfully ramming through legislation that dismantles almost all collective bargaining rights for civil servants, Walker has now turned to prisoners to fill jobs that used to be held by unionized workers...."

(1,832 posts)Unless this occurred under Walker's watch, then basically we are being asked to endorse lying to register voters.
Not cool

(1,832 posts)that Republicans are misguided and wrong headed, but their voters are not a threat to humanity. It is laughable to say they are. I am all about solutions that bring left and right together to move this country forward, not label 30-40% of the population of this country the enemy of humanity.

(5,751 posts)but if we can never address the urgent and grave problems humanity now faces, such as global climate change projections of devastation, mass migrations, anarchy and chaos starting as soon as 2035, then I take you to task. Now you likely think I'm exaggerating, and that's your prerogative.
Take care, my friend, and I wish you the best, regardless of your next post.

(1,832 posts)At no point did you ever justify yourself or say ANYTHING that was an attempt to answer my questions. This is a message board, if you make outlandish claims that LYING to voters is worth it, be prepared to back it up with facts. There will be a lot of discussions like this between you and other posters if you don't back up your words with facts. I would be very happy to have a factual discussion with you that includes something other than your opinion that lying to voters is a cool thing to do.

(36,063 posts)their right to vote.
The article I read made it seem that probationary, parole periods, and any period of penalty such as hours of community service are included in the voting exclusion.
Some states allow voting as soon as a person is released from jail, but not WI.
