Protesters interrupt St. Louis Symphony with ‘Requiem for Mike Brown’

Source: Washington Post

http://m.

Ferguson, Mo. — Protesters rallying over the slaying of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown left the streets on Saturday night, put on sports coats and fancy dresses and sat in on the St. Louis Symphony.

During the intermission of a performance of Brahms Requiem, the 23 protesters sitting in various parts of the auditorium stood up and sang, “Requiem for Mike Brown.”

“Justice for Mike Brown is Justice for us All,
Which side are you on friend? Which side are you on?”

Rest of the audience, great.

I wish the rest of the audience felt comfortable to stand and sing since with words were accessible.

I don't know if she is more disgusted with the flash crowd and their message or that others around her were clapping these people that had the audacity to interrupt her night out.

damn as long as it happens to someone else. People should be up in arms, ALL people, because this was handled so extremely poorly all the way around by the police and all authorities, elected officials.

It doesn't matter what you think, no matter how you feel about the shooting, the complete disregard for the Brown family, for the community, for humanity, by leaving his body lying on the street for hour after hour is enough reason for a person with ANY modicum of compassion to be outraged.

got me to click on the article in question. I wholeheartedly agree with you that most of the comments sucked. The racism and ignorance of some of them was blatant and apparently the ones who made them were quite proud of their racism and bigotry. So sad to be them.

But I thoroughly enjoyed the protest. Too bad more audience members didn't join in.

Racism is bad enough but those that are proud of it, well it's beyond disgusting.

I think it was an awesome protest and a perfect place for it. If nothing else, many of those people will think about more than they had been. Possibly actually doing something. Maybe something big. Ya never know

what it was about. There are always haters, but I was surprised how many people started clapping and smiling. A number had their standard stock frozen indignant faces on, those I consider F'ed up in general.

We have a terrific symphony in Pittsburgh, but the number of empty seats at performances has been increasing year by year.

Not to detract from the righteous story about Michael Brown, but I also note with disappointment the fact that so many Murkans know the latest version of Madonna, or Lady Poo Poo or whatever, but have no idea about Stravinsky, Honnegger, Webern, etc. I see it as another symptom of the Dumbing Of America.

But to get back on topic.....I wish I could have been there to applaud.
