Especially if two bitter rivals are playing.

(If I remember correctly, I think a war broke out over a soccer match couple decades ago in Central America.)

And, sure, we could drag Great Britain and their soccer hooligans into this, but I think the culprits there are not at university, typically.

this was not just idiocy, they were looting(finding) things from stores. Turning over cars and lighting large fires. Oh I forgot, this is the 'privileged' class. They will get a slap on the wrist and move on the bigger and better crimes on Wall Street, in business and in government.

Their biggest, most respected major is education. Very few of these folks will wind up as high powered hedge fund managers.

yet, my post stands. Don't care if it's Podunk U., 'leaders' of some type are being 'created' at Keene. I wonder how many future republicans were out that night and involved in that 'melee' that was actually a riot of the privileged involving looting? Period.

If these rampaging young WHITE people had been black, how many would be dead today, shot to death by the cops?

That's not a thing. Who's writing this stuff? The word you should have used was "riots", and according to the photos "looting".

The article mentioned an attempt to have the largest number of lit jack-o-lanterns in one place...

where are the automatic rifles, the armored humvees and tracked vehicles. The robo-cop garbed 'invasion' troops. Oh I forgot it's definitely NOT Ferguson. And it was just pumpkins and frat boys and sorority girls up to 'mischief', not a dead person lying in the streets for hours after being shot down, unarmed, for walking in the street and 'thugs' being pissed off about it and 'rioting'......

and I am inclined to believe it. A "festival" in a semi-remote college town is going to attract no-account yahoos whose only intent is to party hard. I went to a small college in Ohio, and I remember seeing lots of unfamiliar faces whenever there was some action going on.

We had the "Hash Bash" every April 1 to commemorate the passing of a state law allowing local option on punishment for possession of small amounts of marijuana. The "punishment" in Ann Arbor was a $5 parking ticket.

The Bash had started as a mellow, local event, but by the time I was a senior, it was getting really rowdy, and there were obviously many non-students participating. There were lots of cop cars, and they weren't there to bust anyone for marijuana. Most of the students did what they could to avoid the central campus area on the day of the Bash.

The only time my local news used the word riot, in their reporting....when describing the police. "police in riot gear" Other than that it was "Mayhem" "partiers" "disturbances". Odd that they described, looting, fires burning, over turned car, street signs being torn down and bottle throwing. All without calling it a riot.
