Russian memorial to Apple founder dismantled after CEO comes out
Source: Reuters
A memorial to Apple Inc founder Steve Jobs has been dismantled in the Russian city of St Petersburg after the man who succeeded him at the helm of the company, Tim Cook, came out as gay.
The two-metre (more than six-feet) high monument, in the shape of an iPhone, was erected outside a St Petersburg college in January 2013 by a Russian group of companies called ZEFS.
Citing the need to abide by a law combating "gay propaganda", ZEFS said in a statement on Monday that the memorial had been removed on Friday -- the day after Apple CEO Cook had announced he was homosexual.
"In Russia, gay propaganda and other sexual perversions among minors are prohibited by law," ZEFS said, noting that the memorial had been "in an area of direct access for young students and scholars". After Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly called for sodomy, the monument was taken down to abide to the Russian federal law protecting children from information promoting denial of traditional family values."

(113,094 posts)Isn't that why Snowden is there and refusing to come back to the United States?
blm
The reason Mr Snowden will not come back to US, is more because Will face a trial where he more than possible will not be able to defend himself in a manner who is suitable in a democratic state (who US claim to be) as no judge in the US would be able to hold a trial - where anyone could get a fair trial - if it then goes to trial at all - I suspect mr Snowden do know - that if he put his two foots in the US - he would be whispered away to somewhere nasty place - to some extra-ordinary justice from the government - maybe not in a official capacity - but still sanctioned by the US government - as it have been doing for at least a decade and a Half by now.... And torture is still torture - regardness of who is torturing..
If mr Snoweden was able to get a fair trial in the US - where the prosecution would be fair and show all the evidence - in a open court - and not claiming "state security or state secret" as ground to close the court - then I guess even Snowden will travel to the US - to get his day in court.... I doubt he want to be in Putin's Russia anymore as it is... The Putin's Russia are not exactly a State with democracy - or for that matter a great state with tolerance... That ship sailed in the mids to late 1990s - when Russia was more open to the world than before, and even gay people could live somewhat in the open - as long as it was descreete...

That could also be a posibility - Im not sure - but regardness - what he documented - have shown that US do have some bones to pick with him.... If they could get their hands on him...

(113,094 posts)Some of us, anyway. The mainstream media knew and ignored it till it could be used to pile on the current WH.
blm
Many "Knew" it - but no one KNOW! it - and therefore the ones who supported this things could say - that it was a hoax -and that it did not happened - because the evidence was flimsy at best...
Today we DO KNOW - and are no more in power to stop it than before - but at least we do know about it... And the pilate could not be given to the current occupant of the White House either.... Even if the news media was not into it before...

No charges there.
But they charged Manning with 35 years.

"These nations, including Russia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Ecuador have my gratitude and respect for being the first to stand against human rights violations carried out by the powerful rather than the powerless. By refusing to compromise their principles in the face of intimidation, they have earned the respect of the world. It is my intention to travel to each of these countries to extend my personal thanks to their people and leaders."

In three consecutive transparencies, the authors of the presentation draw a comparison with "1984," George Orwell's classic novel about a surveillance state, revealing the agency's current view of smartphones and their users. "Who knew in 1984 that this would be Big Brother " the authors ask, in reference to a photo of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. And commenting on photos of enthusiastic Apple customers and iPhone users, the NSA writes: " and the zombies would be paying customers?"
