Brown concedes to Shaheen
Source: Boston Globe
MANCHESTER, N.H. Republican Scott Browns audacious bid for US Senate in New Hampshire failed Tuesday night, when he was beaten by incumbent Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Tonight the people of New Hampshire chose to put New Hampshire first. ... I am so proud to once again be able to represent the people of New Hampshire in the US Senate, Shaheen said in a victory speech.
Shaheen promised to work with anyone in the Senate, Democrat, Republican, independent, to get things done to help New Hampshires working families and our small businesses.
In his concession speech, Brown said, Youve got no business in politics unless you respect the judgment of the people. I accept the decision of the voters.

(297,655 posts)catatonic and I don't think I'll be eating tonight.. much anyway. But, I will Hang Tough.. and the shock will wear off as time goes by.
I remember in 2004 when Kerry lost.. I was a little bit of a basket case and my yoga teacher that night said there could be silver linings.. and 2 years later there were..and two more years we got President Obama.
We are living to Fight another day.

(39,379 posts)I had a friend who was so despondent after 2004; me, I said at least Bush will own his failures now. What's crazy about certain people in this country is how soon they forget when it comes to the Republicans while a guy like Jimmy Carter remains a national joke for decades. We have to keep proving ourselves while they get Get Out of Jail Free cards.

(135,425 posts)Too many thick steaks and double martinis at those lunches with his bigwig buddies, it would seem. He looks like he's gone up a size or two in his barn coats.
So if he's taking his clothes off, it's for a "BEFORE" picture for Jenny Craig (might not be a bad gig--they pay well, I hear). He really does look lousy and unwell, notwithstanding the expensive suits and pan-stick make-up and the ridiculously "over cut, over colored, and over-styled" hairdo.

(59,504 posts)Weird as I think I remember that in 2012 he was speaking of not drinking.
He really does look bad, given his age and the fact that he was born with looks (and no character). This race, like the last, shows that he has little judgment or gravitas. Shaheen speaking sincerely and in detail about issues and NH was a stark contrast. Congratulations to NH for seeing what is genuine vs what is flashy. (I will never get the infatuation that much of the media had with him -- even today, the NYT speaks of his meteoric "career" - rather than more accurately his meteoric rise to fame through luck and good timing in 2010 than ended quickly in sheer nastiness of his side of the campaign with Warren.

(135,425 posts)And, as I have said repeatedly, the Bay State is UNFRIENDLY to women candidates. They have to be twice as good, work twice as hard, and do it backwards in sensible pumps (if not high heels) while assholes are criticizing their hairstyles and clothing choices--and some of those criticizing assholes are women, too!
Martha's loss helped Warren in that she saw how he operated and her team was better able to defend against him. Martha's loss AND Warren's win helped Shaheen because she saw how that loud-mouthed one-trick pony worked--he fought dirty and couldn't win on the issues, so he had to go for the personal insult and denigration tactics.
I know why the Koch Brothers liked him--he followed orders and was always obsequious.
