Lawyer: Bill Cosby won't address sex abuse allegations
Source: USA Today
LOS ANGELES (AP) Bill Cosby will not dignify "decade-old, discredited" claims of sexual abuse with a response, his attorney said Sunday, the first reaction from the comedian to an increasing uproar over allegations that he sexually assaulted several women in the past.
In a statement released to The Associated Press and posted online, attorney John P. Schmitt said the fact that the allegations are being repeated does not make them true.
He doesn't intend to "dignify" the allegations with a comment.

"Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives."
- John P. Schmitt, lawyer for Bill Cosby

(9,959 posts)...deny whenever asked. He should say any money paid was a mistake and demand the money be returned and given to organizations which deal with rape victims. Lastly, he should take legal action against the accusers - if they are making these false accusations, and if they are indeed false, the accusers should be punished.
...but, if they are true, Mr. Cosby should be taken to court and settle with each victim.

(35,441 posts)I don't know if these allegations are true or not. None of the accusers pressed charges at the time nor sued him.
Regardless, you cannot expect people to sue everyone who makes charges against you. That's unreasonable.

MamaMania.com: Cosby, now aged 77, settled a sexual assault law suit in November 2006 (a case in which 13 women had prepared to give evidence of their experiences)...
And then there's Autumn Jackson: Cosby admitted to having an affair with her mother, to whom he gave money. She was sentenced to 26 months for extortion which was overturned after she served 14. But then the courts overturned the overturning.

(12,778 posts)unless he decides to sue the accusers for slander. The problem is that it's hard to prove a negative. Once a man is accused, there is always a question mark next to his name.
Silence is probably his best option.

(1,307 posts)The lady was 17 when the supposed rape occurred, not 10. She was old enough to do something and didn't. I think it is an attempt to extort money from Cosby.
