Hundreds of students at an Oklahoma high school walked out of classes on Monday to protest what they said was a failure by school administrators to take care of three girls who have accused a male classmate of sexually assaulting them.
The girls have all stopped attending Norman High School due to what they say is bullying by friends of the alleged assailant, who was suspended after he was suspected of posting a video of one of the sexual encounters online.
I hope it stops, said Rachel Capshaw, a ninth grader at the school. Public schools should be a safe place.
The protest at the Norman school comes after several major U.S. colleges, including the University of Virginia, began investigating high profile accusations of sexual assault on their campuses.

(14,531 posts)not "of one of the sexual encounters online."
He posted a video of his allegedly raping a student. I only used the word allegedly because that is how a newspaper must report it.
3 girls have said the boy raped them.

(84,711 posts)it does seem a "pattern of rapists" has been exposed.
I'm old enough to remember "Party Universities" and what went on then with certain Fraternities that preyed on Freshman Girls...and how vulnerable they were. But, this seems a resurgence of evil more acceptable in today's culture and it's time that attention was called to it to weed it out and for responsible, caring students to fight back against this domination of a "Rape Culture" that seems to be intensifying.
What bothers me is that I thought that both our young Females and Males were much more enlightened than my experiences many decades ago with "Party School Fraternity Culture."
I thought both sexes would have "grown up".......but, sadly it seems we've relapsed even beyond "Animal House" kind of stuff into a "dark side" of Privilege of the Wealthy to get away with multiple rapes and "Gang Rapes" (unheard of in my time)...although it probably did exist...in the larger Universities and at that time...no Female had hope of speaking out and would just leave the school...shamed forever in her mind and the males would go on to become Company Presidents or Politicians.
Still......why we still have young men and women who are so literate and have seen so much more of sexual relations in movies in theater and on TV and yet the problems grow worse or haven't managed to be addressed is puzzling to me.
We need to protect our young. We think they know "everything these days" but, there still is an innocence that we just don't expect. And, as power and privilege of the students in the "Top Tier Schools" expands because of the Wealth Inequities in our Society ...we need to work ever harder to educate and protect those who don't realize that privilege often means EXPLOITATION of EVERYONE who can be seen as "innocent prey." Sadly...the more we know...it seems the less we know until a CRISIS occurs to draw our attention to it these days.
