Oath Keepers Guard Ferguson's Streets and Rooftops, Drawing Police Opposition
Source: ABC
"When night falls on Ferguson, Missouri, Sam Andrews gets to work.
Andrews dressed in full camouflage and armed with an assault rifle and handgun climbs to the roof of a dentists office to begin his nightly surveillance. Hes a member of the Oath Keepers, a group taking up armed positions on the streets and rooftops with the intent of protecting local businesses.
He says hes here to defend The best part of America, the creative part, the small businesses, the hardest working people in the United States of America. To defend them from arson.
While some business owners are embracing the presence of Andrews and other do-it-yourself patrolmen with the Oath Keepers, many others including police are uncomfortable with the groups mission."

(11,841 posts)Other than that who cares? I wouldnt want my business being destroyed either. There's NO EXCUSE for any arson or looting. ANd There are a LOT of armed people protecting businesses there. They just need to watch their step.
"What separates the Oath Keepers from other militia groups is that they recruit men and women of the military and law enforcement vowing to disobey unconstitutional orders from what the group sees as an increasingly tyrannical president and government.
Many, including the police, have concerns with the Oath Keepers and their mission. Oren Segal, director of the Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism, called the Oath keepers an extremist, anti-government group.
Everything that they say that stand for is based on this notion that the world and the government is going to become a dictatorship to try to prevent Americans from having their freedoms, Segal said.
Ferguson is not the first time the Oath Keepers have made headlines. This past spring, after federal agents clashed with members of a Nevada cattle ranching family over the removal of a herd from federally-managed land, Oath Keepers and like-minded followers descended on the ranch to show their support."
I don't live in Ferguson but I don't think anybody needs Oath Keeper's "help".

(1,589 posts)they threw a brick through a window? Where is that line where our society says it is OK to kill someone? What about breaking in entry. Or do they have to be leaving after theft? petty theft or grand theft?
hack89
(39,171 posts)But I doubt it is a black and white situation as to where the line is drawn. Certainly protecting a business from arson would be legal.
Lenomsky
(340 posts)for throwing a rock through a window?
hack89
(39,171 posts)As opposed to just one person I would think so. Perhaps not for a single brick but if it was a true mob scene and the mob was violent then yes.
Mob or no mob shooting individuals is fucking retarded.
If the mob or individual was armed then ok but shoot to maim it's not War.
hack89
(39,171 posts)then the law says I can shoot. And that is what we are talking about - what the law says.
Lenomsky
(340 posts).. I'll concede that but for the sake of some merchandise/property (which I assume is insured) then no!
The Law is not always right. Stand your ground in FLA in my opinion is wrong (Zimmerman for instance albeit maybe not an ideal choice as an example).
Ferguson: They had plenty Police and National Guard and again in my opinion the first night of the firestorm was allowed to happen so the authorities could say ''See I told you so''. Police were there with Army and it's their job to protect people and property.
I should say as I normally do I'm a Brit that lives in USA for about 4 months a year so I don't know all the ins and outs but our Cops don't tend to shoot anybody and some even have guns.

(6,241 posts)a business, and some asshole wants to destroy it in 20 minutes with a gas can, I'm sure you'd welcome any help you could get in protecting it. Especially since the police seem to be doing jack shit in protecting it.
billhicks76
(5,082 posts)And racist as all Hell. There us no way they would protect anyone unless they were White conservatives. I don't blame people wanting to protect their property. How about not announcing the verdict at night and not inflaming tensions with storm trooping jackbooted thugs in blue. Violence begets more violence. There were ways to defuse the situation and those precautions weren't taken. Anyone breaking windows or burning things down should be prepared to get their ass kicked though in my opinion. And that includes paid informants and Provacateurs. Peaceful resistance is proven to work better anyway. Threatening cops or businesses is just plain wrong and hopefully tensions subside but the work continues.
christx30
(6,241 posts)racists that want to protect me than angry people that want to destroy my business.
I support the protestors. I hate the criminal part of it that is destroying the town. They are making Sean Hannity and his ilk say "see? We're right about those people." Anything that allows them to say anything like that is irritating to say the least.

(2,679 posts)especially ones that are armed.
I highly doubt these shit heads would protect your biz if you were black, brown, red or yellow.
I would never let crazy racists with guns near me. Sadly the criminal part in this case seems to be the justice system not the protesters.
Just saying...

(11,841 posts)I seriously doubt anyone will walk up and throw a brick at a place with armed people standing on the roof or in front of it. We've seen it before, shoot the first one and the rest will scatter. I'm sick of this shit. Business people in ferguson or anywhere have zero to do with bad policing. Its being used an an excuse for robbery. Its not "frustration" or anything else. Its simple greed.

And I'm sorry, exactly who "highly trains" these yokels, and what acceptable standard are they trained to? I thought anyone with a similar mindset could join them?
christx30
(6,241 posts)They police force trains them. They are service personnel and cops that think the US is going down the road to tyranny, and will refuse any orders they feel violate the Constitution.
Want to collect taxes from refusing ACA insurance? An oath keeper cop will refuse to help.
A law regulating guns or instituting background checks? They won't enforce it.
They will refuse to work with the UN. There are a lot of things they won't do.

(2,086 posts)involving active duty LE and military in their vigilante fantasies. Here's what the SPLC has to say about them:
http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2013/07/25/oath-keepers-rally-reveals-radical-politics-of-group/
"But nearly four years later, if there were any questions still remaining about what the Oath Keepers really are, an event the group has planned for this weekend should lay them all to rest. Starting on Friday at the Farragut State Park outside Coeur dAlene, Idaho, the Oath Keepers are hosting the Northwest Patriots and Self Reliance Rally..."
It's worth the full read, because they actively recruit present members of military/LE. Foul treasonous bastards, the lot, and the newest incarnation of the Klan, the Order, all the old racist, anti-government fringe nut-bags.
