Brooklyn, OH - The clothing company Hugo Boss has announced it will be closing its plant in Brooklyn, Ohio by the end of April of 2015. That would leave about 170 people without a job.
This comes after a threatened closure of the same plant back in 2010.
Union President Wanda Navara from the plant said the announcement was a complete surprise and that employees had no idea this was coming.
"Our reaction is really sad. Our Christmas spirit is gone and now we're just going to be dealing with this again like before," said Navaro.

Back in 2010, Congressman Dennis Kucinich joined the workers to help save their jobs. I hope to see Marcy Kaptur do the same this time around.

What a disappointment - She's nothing like Dennis.

(23,218 posts)Everyone in the Cleveland area said that when she beat Dennis, she'd turn a blind eye to Cleveland and only focus on the Toledo area.
So far, this holds true.

(221 posts)Marcy Kaptur has great integrity. I'm sure that she will go to bat for any worker in her district. Sadly, I've been gerrymandered into Dictrict 5 - Latta-R. Grrrrr....

(3,270 posts)Kaptur got to keep all of Toledo and Sandusky in the new 9th district.
The old 10th district carved into the new 9th district only offered 1/3 of the old Cleveland demographic.
Kucinich won in Cuyahoga country by a landslide against Kaptur by a 3 to 1 margin, as Kaptur did in her old district.
The 9th district was changed to help the rethugs carve up Cuyahoga county into three parts that give the GOP more of an advantage then the solid Blue it has always been.
This was completely by design.

(221 posts)I live in the city limits of Toledo in the south end. I am a mile from where the Kaptur/Latta line was imposed. Some other neighborhoods near me were divided down the middle of the street into Kaptur/Latta. Marcy does NOT have all of Toledo anymore. Latta got some of the Toledo area that tends to vote Republican.
They originally wanted to carve up Toledo into THREE areas, with part of Toledo going into the 4th District. The lines would have occurred in the downtown area.
I am really upset that there is no way our little 5th District area who has a few Democrats could possibly unseat Latta, who has the NW corner of the state and lots of rural Republican support.

(11,521 posts)From the linked article, Hugo Boss profits are up 9% this year. THAT certainly sounds like a good reason to close plants and lay off employees. Bullshit like that is EXACTLY what's wrong with corporate America anymore, the fucking bean-counters are so short sighted and greedy they've lost their souls.
