NY Daily News Makes Huge Statement With Front Page On Eric Garner Decision
Source: Huffington Post
The New York Daily News is making it clear where the paper stands on the decision by a grand jury not to indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo for the choking death of Eric Garner.
"WE CAN'T BREATHE," the paper declares on its front page, along with a photo showing Garner before he was brought down by a chokehold at the hands of Pantaleo.

(2,331 posts)With its editorial page, is a legitimate newspaper, unlike the waste of trees rag owned by Murdoch.
I actually cancelled my subscription to the DN cause its feud with DeBlasio got on my nerves. Calling him an ass in the headline really offended me. That said, I've since become quite disillusioned with DeBlasio.

Something else?
I assume you don't prefer a Giuliani-type?

(56,582 posts)Same way with the Washington Times / Washington Post -- as much as I hate the Times I always go to it for city politics coverage.

It's several still shots from the video of the arrest and murder with the headline "It Was Not A Crime".

(26,060 posts)had no idea the DN had gotten so expensive. In looking at the Post cover, I also see they say "Just a Buck". No wonder practically nobody reads a hard copy of a paper anymore. If I could just give up the Sunday NY Times, I wouldn't either. Just something about the Sunday Times - spread all over the house - that means Sunday in NY.

(17,997 posts)But the NYT was a Sunday staple. Parents would argue about who did the crossword puzzle each week. And they always finished it. Dad was faster. Man I miss him.

(26,060 posts)finished the damn thing every week (which she insisted on using a pen for). Thankfully I now live in my own place and can tackle it (in pencil). I'm missing Dad for different reasons this week - he would have gone down to the city last night and offered to defend anyone getting arrested in those protests. He was a liberal's liberal and taught me everything I know about justice.

My dad used pen. My mom pencil. I was too intimated by them and have never done any crossword puzzle.
I'm sorry you lost your dad. Sucks! They just don't warn you how difficult it is to lose a parent. My dad too. He wouldn't go on the street to protest, but he would be making speeches and trying to have laws changed. He was a politician.
For our dads
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)Yup - we were lucky. He once confronted a bunch of protesters outside a family planning clinic (my sister and I were in the car and got to see that) and went back the next day to offer his legal services to the clinic if they ever had to go to court about the protesters. He's gone 2-1/2 years now and politics and sports are not the same anymore. This past election night I picked up the phone and dialed his old phone number (mom has moved since he died), just out of habit. It is incredibly hard to lose a parent who was always there for you, who always make me proud to be his daughter. I'll be sure to add your dad to my prayers (hope that's okay).

What a wonderful dad you had.

(47,560 posts)does NYC need five or six cops for someone selling loosies? The city doesn't have enough real crime to keep their officers busy? This is insane.

(5,082 posts)So they barely even try anymore...its all about Drug War dollars, forfeiture, fines an putting minorities in their place.
