Swedish police raid The Pirate Bay, site offline
Source: Torrent Freak
Police in Sweden carried out a raid in Stockholm today, seizing servers, computers, and other equipment. At the same time The Pirate Bay and several other torrent-related sites disappeared offline. Although no official statement has been made, TF sources confirm action against TPB.
For many years The Pirate Bay has been sailing by the seat of its pants so any downtime is met with concern from its millions of users.

However, over in Sweden authorities have just confirmed that local police carried out a raid in Stockholm this morning as part of an operation to protect intellectual property.

While it seems certain that The Pirate Bay has been targeted today, it was not the only casualty. Several other torrent related sites including EZTV, Zoink, Torrage and the Istole tracker are also down.

The Pirate Bay has been in hot water for a long time. All of the Pirate Bay's founders are in jail. The first raid on the service goes all the way back to 2006. It's hard to imagine that this is The Pirate Bay's final act, as it always seems to come back. But even if it dies in name, torrents and piracy will live on under some other name.

Pirate Bay and EZTV use the cloud but loading time and a smart security protocol makes it a few days before resets itself and is fully online. The armada landed yesterday morning and is sharing in full now. In short, Sweden sucks, and Costa Rica rocks. Pirate Bay Costa Rica is working even better than the original.

(13,869 posts)The Pirate Bay site appeared back online late on Tuesday, changing its web domain to .cr (Costa Rica). Prior to that, however, it was reportedly unavailable for hours.

Kat is up, and Demonoid is back, but has really suffered during all the downtime.
TPB will resurface, I have no doubt.
