Democratic support for $1.1T spending bill wavers

Source: AP-Excite

By ANDREW TAYLOR

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic support for a huge, $1.1 trillion spending bill funding every corner of government faded Wednesday as liberal lawmakers erupted over a provision that weakens the regulation of risky financial instruments and another that allows more money to flood into political parties.

At the same time, conservatives are unhappy that the bill fails to challenge President Barack Obama's immigration policy.

The measure took a blow when House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued a statement demanding that the changes to 2010 Dodd-Frank regulation of complex financial instruments known as derivatives and a provision sharply hiking limits on donations to political parties be taken out of the bill. Her support, and the votes of her Democratic colleagues, is crucial to passing the measure.

"These provisions are destructive to middle class families and to the practice of our democracy," Pelosi said. "We must get them out of the omnibus package."

take the same hit in popularity they took a couple of years ago. The gov't runs out of money tomorrow. By doing this the Dems have two impossible choices. Pass the bill and alienate their voters, plus if a Dem legislator signs it it will be a major campaign ad for the Repubs in 2016, or let the gov't shut down.

If the Dem legislators don't sign the budget the Republicans are probably counting on the fact that they own the press to make sure the American people don't know the truth. They're right. If the Dems don't sign the budget the average American won't know it is to protect them from having to bail out the banks for derivatives again.

Wait until the very last minute and cram in a bunch of crooked stuff on behalf of Wall Street and billionaires at the expense of the American people. If Democrats refuse to go along with it and the gov't shuts down--blame the Democrats!
