Not that it is NOT horrific - but it's not like a Sandy Hook type of situation.

The schools in the area are being told to Shelter in place. There are SWAT teams in a couple of locations. From the sounds of it, he had/has specific targets.
For the past hour or so, they have been reporting he is barricaded in Souderton, PA. No true updates since then, though.
Many helicopters have been flying around my area all morning. Praying and hoping for the safety of everyone.

Turns out he was never in that house they were surrounding.

(101,312 posts)The standoff at the house on Souderton's West Penn Street ended shortly before noon after what sounded like a concussion grenade went off and an unidentified male, evidently seriously wounded, was removed from the home and taken by ambulance to a waiting medical helicopter.
Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Dickinson said the person was not the suspected gunman and the SWAT teams had moved out to another location in Pennsburg.

Police move near a home in Souderton, Pa., Monday, as they search for a suspect in the shooting deaths of six people.
Police are looking for a man accused of killing 6 people in Montgomery County, Pa., Monday. Officials say the gunman is Bradley William Stone, 35, who also left three people wounded.
Reports and details are still coming in about a situation that is still developing; we'll update this post as news emerges.
The events began to unfold around 4 a.m. ET Monday, when police were called to the scene of a shooting. Prosecutors say, "All of the victims have a familial relationship to Stone."
From member station WHYY:
"Neighbors at the first shooting scene in Harleysville said they awoke around 4 a.m. to the sounds of breaking glass and gunshots.
"One neighbor, Evon Weron, said the suspect is a former member of the military and that the first victim was his ex-wife. Weron told the Lansdale Reporter the couple had been fighting over custody of children."

(39,171 posts)7. Guns are used for self-defense often and effectively. Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008, says the report. The three million figure is probably high, based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys. But a much lower estimate of 108,000 also seems fishy, because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use. Furthermore, Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was 'used' by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.

(1,098 posts)Oh I've seen many estimates over the years. The problem is always that these are estimates based on tiny samples and there is never definitive proof. I'm still waiting to hear about the many school shootings that were stopped by the "good guy with a gun." The many would-be rape victims who shot their attackers. The many criminals that stopped in their tracks when they saw someone brandishing a gun. The RKBA crowd makes the excuse that we never hear about those things because supposedly the press and media are left-wing and would never give exposure to a story that paints gun owners in a positive light. How convenient.

...
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman told reporters that police found Mr Stone's body about half a mile from his home in Pennsburg.
He died of "self-inflicted cutting wounds" to the centre of his body, she said.
