Several shootings were reported Monday near Philadelphia.

The shootings happened at several places in Montgomery County, said John Corcoran, deputy director of public safety there.

CNN affiliate WPVI reported that five people were killed and that a gunman was barricaded in a home in Souderton, Pennsylvania; that report could not independently be confirmed.

Shooting -wife and other family members.

Not that it is NOT horrific - but it's not like a Sandy Hook type of situation.

He started with his family, according to some reports.

The schools in the area are being told to Shelter in place. There are SWAT teams in a couple of locations. From the sounds of it, he had/has specific targets.

For the past hour or so, they have been reporting he is barricaded in Souderton, PA. No true updates since then, though.

Many helicopters have been flying around my area all morning. Praying and hoping for the safety of everyone.

The hunt for Stone has moved to Pennsburg after a siege in Souderton ended without taking a suspect into custody.

The standoff at the house on Souderton's West Penn Street ended shortly before noon after what sounded like a concussion grenade went off and an unidentified male, evidently seriously wounded, was removed from the home and taken by ambulance to a waiting medical helicopter.

Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Dickinson said the person was not the suspected gunman and the SWAT teams had moved out to another location in Pennsburg.

Police move near a home in Souderton, Pa., Monday, as they search for a suspect in the shooting deaths of six people.

Police are looking for a man accused of killing 6 people in Montgomery County, Pa., Monday. Officials say the gunman is Bradley William Stone, 35, who also left three people wounded.

Reports and details are still coming in about a situation that is still developing; we'll update this post as news emerges.

The events began to unfold around 4 a.m. ET Monday, when police were called to the scene of a shooting. Prosecutors say, "All of the victims have a familial relationship to Stone."

From member station WHYY:

"Neighbors at the first shooting scene in Harleysville said they awoke around 4 a.m. to the sounds of breaking glass and gunshots.

"One neighbor, Evon Weron, said the suspect is a former member of the military and that the first victim was his ex-wife. Weron told the Lansdale Reporter the couple had been fighting over custody of children."

Keep telling us over in the RKBA group that guns save more lives than they take. I'd love to hear about all the assaults and murders that were supposedly prevented today thanks to "good guys with guns," as I have yet to see anything that backs their claims.

23. Didn't read the CDC report that said that guns are used for self-defense often and effectively?
Mon Dec 15, 2014, 10:16 PM
Dec 2014
Earlier this year, President Obama ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assess the existing research on gun violence and recommend future studies. That report, prepared by the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council, is now complete. Its findings won’t entirely please the Obama administration or the NRA, but all of us should consider them. Here’s a list of the 10 most salient or surprising takeaways.

7. Guns are used for self-defense often and effectively. “Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year … in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008,” says the report. The three million figure is probably high, “based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys.” But a much lower estimate of 108,000 also seems fishy, “because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use.” Furthermore, “Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was 'used' by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

Six people were very effectively sent to their graves by a nutcase who, if it wasn't for NRA freaks, should have been thoroughly and annually vetted by local law enforcement for the privilege of owning any firearms.

Police states are called police states for a reason. You like the idea of giving cops more power over our rights. You must have loved the Patriot Act.

Oh I've seen many estimates over the years. The problem is always that these are estimates based on tiny samples and there is never definitive proof. I'm still waiting to hear about the many school shootings that were stopped by the "good guy with a gun." The many would-be rape victims who shot their attackers. The many criminals that stopped in their tracks when they saw someone brandishing a gun. The RKBA crowd makes the excuse that we never hear about those things because supposedly the press and media are left-wing and would never give exposure to a story that paints gun owners in a positive light. How convenient.

The body of Bradley Stone was found in a wooded area near his home on Tuesday, bringing to an end a 36-hour manhunt.
