Carmike Cinemas Pulls 'The Interview' With Sony's Support
Source: ABC News
Carmike Cinemas has decided to cancel its planned showings of "The Interview" in the wake of threats against theatergoers by the Sony hackers.
Sony Pictures Entertainment told theater owners on Tuesday that it would be supportive of their individual decisions on whether or not to show the film, which is still set for a Christmas release, according to multiple reports.
The late developments came just hours after the hackers released a data dump that they're calling a "Christmas gift." Included in the latest breach are emails from Sony Pictures co-chair and CEO Michael Lynton, as well as specific threats against patrons of the comedy, which depicts an assassination attempt against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a chilling message invoking the memory of 9/11, the hackers urged audiences to stay away from venues showing the film.

(5,668 posts)because the audience is too old got it such great publicity that A&E's ratings are in the tank. Got the over 50 population mad and now they love facebook. And Longmires going to Netflix. IRONIC. A&E bet the bank on Duck Dynasty. Enjoy.
So yes nothing like good publicity unless you chicken out and pull the movie. alas I'm not entirely up to watching an absurd movie. North Korea is going to be a laughing stock for years over this.

(50,557 posts)Forced to watch a movie on Christmas and given the choice of "The Interview" or "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"...I think I'd go to the latter. The Interview looks like it'll suck hard enough to pull the theater out by the roots and pick it up five feet, and theaters don't land well.
Fortunately, I am working Christmas so won't have to face that dilemma.

Everyone likes a good double of a famous world leader....

(135,425 posts)I mean, I know a few "critics" have seen it, and "insiders" can give their opinion, but until a large audience gets a crack at it, we can't really know....
And really, the world NEEDS bad movies...otherwise, where would programs like Mystery Science Theater get their material?

(50,557 posts)The first-run theater in Coeur d'Alene had it for one weekend, and passed it on to the local discount theater. This is a theater that never saw a Christian movie it didn't like...until Saving Christmas came along, that is.
Why he didn't put it on Blu-ray and sell it to churches, I have no idea.

I have heard that the Saving film is not worth saving....!!!

(50,557 posts)Parkway Plaza in Seattle has it. A few places have it - it dropped (like an anvil on your toes) on November 14. However, most exhibitors DON'T have it - they'd prefer to make this month's projector payment.

(50,557 posts)They wanted to protect them from a film this stupid and this "threat" gave them an excuse.
This isn't the first movie to go after the North Koreans, and it's not like The Interview is going to be playe in the Great Leader Memorial Patriotic Hall of Movies anyway...are the people who broke into Sony's server trying to draw attention away from what they stole, or are they just making shit up to try hurting Sony more?

(165 posts)cable TV and DVD. get it distributed as widely as possible and to HELL with the hackers and their threats. I am amazed that theaters will not show the movie but bow to the hackers. This is not what the USA stands for.
This make this movie the largest gross in profits ever, just to show the hackers how weak they are.
