“The issue in this case is all about the timing of payment,” says Kim Ervin Tucker, attorney for the Bucksport chapter of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, outside the federal court in Bangor Monday. “Verso acknowledges that they owe severance, they acknowledge that it has to be at least in the amount required under state law. The issue here is really when they have to pay it.”

“It’s always been about our interpretation of when severance was due to be paid,” says Bill Cohen, communication and public affairs for Verso Paper. “And we had an honest disagreement with folks, but out of every session that we ever had, we kept saying let’s keep communications open, let’s keep working on this.”
